Thanks you very much for your video!

I have done the same test on my Protege5. I dont have video througt but i may shot one later if i can.

Here is the result:

4000rpm:

1st - same
2nd - same
3nd - same
4nd - same

6000rpm:

2nd - 84km/h, maybe you have wrong noted the speed
3nd - same

110km/h at 5nd was at more like 3100-3200rpm, it was maybe a mistake on your side

Conclusion: except the little differance, the gear ratio 1st to 4nd look the same. For the 5nd we dont have enought data to really conclude its the same.

Well, all it mean to me its that i dont have to worrying about changing the transmission gear box when i will swap the FS-ZE on my Protege5 to get the same setting as a Familia Sport20. It was that i wanted to figure out.

BTW, is it true that the speed limit in Japan is 80km/h? So you have risk yourself by doing these tests but you have your cops detector anyways ;)

And thanks again, thats really great to have such coperation.

(we are really off-topic on this thread right now :D)

you are right, after looking at the movie again it is indeed 84 in 2nd. As for the 5th, maybe , although I think since the FS-ZE pulls more horsepowers, there is likely to be a difference somewhere to achieve that. Maybe it revs faster in higher speed to maintain the torque. (?)

Also..I was not on the highway to do this test but in a 50 km/h zone ;-) Fortunately it was deserted.

On many highways, yes it is 80. As for respecting the limits...you can go pedal to the metal at 150-160 between Tokyo and where I live (65 km stretch) if you slow down at the photo radar checkpoints.

I guess we only need now 0-400m and 0-60km/h data. With those , you will have the complete picture.

I will take driving lessons with my car at the local racing circuit in October and will let you know those times for the Sport20.

I have found this: http://www.mazda.com/publicity/public/9908/990803e.html

-It has adopted the FS-ZE 2L DOHC engine which is used for the sporty version of Capella and the engine has been specially tuned for Sport 20. Its highly linear run is owed to the specially tuned intake resonance chamber exclusive to Sport 20, well tuned low speed final gear ratio (4.147) and torque converter, dual exhaust, low discharge-pressure main exhaust silencer. These mechanism realize exciting and excellent running performance.
It confirm that the final gear (the 5nd) ratio is not the same. The final gear ratio on Protege5 is 3.904:1 and on Familia Sport20 its 4.147 as they say.
