Mustang Saleen vs MSP

Ok, this is interesting. I see this new Saleen over the weekend @ Taco Bell. Well a 16-18 year old guy gets out, struts across the parking lot and orders him some tacos (lucky him, rich parents!) Anyway, he gets his taco's and drives off about the time i'm getting in my wife's car... saleen sounds great leaving. Fast forward to last night.

I get off work @ 7, drop by Wendy's for some food. As I am coming out of the drive through, the saleen cruises by from the neighboring parking lot. I pull in behind him and follow him to the main road. He takes a right, which happens to be the way i'm going. We pull up to a red light, both of us are in the right lane. I start up @ the same speed he does, to see if he will stomp it and leave me :) - Well, he *goes* a little, but not enough i cant keep up. Anyway, we are coming up on the last red light in town, both of us still in the right lane, the left lane is clear. I decide not to get in the left lane, b/c i know i'll just get my a$$ handed to me, so i stay behind him in the right lane. Well, right before he gets to the red light, he switches to the left lane, so i pull up next to him @ the light. He doesnt rev his motor or anything, but he IS inching forward. I decide, might as well go for it, see how bad i can lose!

Well, the light turns green and i *stomp* it enough to go w/o spinning ... thinking... any second now he will leave me... any second now... but he never does, through 1st gear, his front tire is @ my door.. so i'm thinking, he's just playing... well, i see him shift, so i shift into 2nd and floor it, apparently he is a slow shifter... he drops back so his nose is barely past my rear bumper... shortly after this, i hit 60 - and stop - 45mph limit. well, i think, ok, he'll blow by me now... but no... he *cruises* by.. turns his blinker on, gets in front of me and turns into the high school...

umm.. did i win? i did beat him to 60... but apparently he cant drive his car? or was he just playing? I mean.. i have... what 200 vs 400hp? anyway... i didnt seem like he was playing... i think he just didnt know how to drive his car.

:bt:

V6 with saleen body parts ????

Roddimus Prime November-15th-2005 08:33 AM

yeah, i bet it was a body kit on a SN95 GT ..... a S281 would walk off and leave you no matter how slow you shift.

Jackelope November-15th-2005 08:51 AM

could be :) - did a good job on the *kit* if it was done that way... body/wheels/exhaust...

and i was expecting to be left in the dust :)

its looks like if he only had a v6, he wouldnt have gotten over.. unless he thought his car was bada$$ b/c it looked like a saleen?

macdaddyslomo November-15th-2005 09:38 AM

if he was a NEW 05 mustang, like you said...a V6 with the saleen parts would STILL have 210 hp....enough to hang a little bit with you....

Jackelope November-15th-2005 09:41 AM

dunno, next time i see him, i'll just flag him down and count the cylinders :) - i do know it didnt sound like a v6...

still gonna bug my wife's cousin's boyfriend.. tell him i outran a saleen (he's got a f150, thinks he can outrun everything)

btw.. it looked like this (except blue)

Far as I am concerned a win is a win, no matter if the guy knows how to drive or not. Isn't that part of the challenge of racing, to find out who is the better driver? And, it just sounds cool to say you beat a Saleen!!

Jackelope November-15th-2005 11:57 AM

i guess i should say i *beat the guy driving the saleen* :)

macdaddyslomo November-15th-2005 12:09 PM

I swear I'm not trying to be a jerk, but even a reg GT would smoke an MSP, even with a HORRIBLE driver....HAD to be a kitted V6, or he simply wasnt trying to outpace you....

Jackelope November-15th-2005 12:28 PM

i dont take that as a jerk :) - what i thought @ 1st, he wasnt trying.. but.. why would HE move over to the left lane, knowing he was turning into a school on the right < 1/2 mile away?

Well, hope nobody takes offense to this but he was in high school....That says enough to me....Idiot teenage driver......changed lanes just screwing around then realized he was almost there and had to get back over....Or an uncle ben ricer making a V6 look like a Saleen....

I have never seen a a male under the age of 20 that drove safe or smart...It's a fact. Why do you think our insurance rates are so high until we get married or turn 25 ????

Jackelope November-15th-2005 01:04 PM

^ true :) - been there, done that - oh well, i'll have to catch him around town, see what he really has (and if he doesnt have a v6, ask him where he learned to drive :bt:

Roddimus Prime November-15th-2005 01:16 PM

yeah, it was most likely a V6. My ford dealership here has like 8 of them. They are about $4K more than a regular V6 and are nothing more than body accents, wheels and exhaust.

Jackelope November-15th-2005 01:27 PM

so-probably a v6 with saleen body kit/wheels/exhaust - any interior extras?

Roddimus Prime November-15th-2005 01:39 PM

they usually have leather with the saleen logo on them....at least thats what I've seen here.

zerocover November-15th-2005 02:14 PM

Hell even thouse v6's are mean. If he was going at it im sure it would have been known thouse things are loud with a full exhaust. A buddy of mine has one its faster then alot of things on the road.

Although he did get the svt v6 any idea what thouse have that the normal ones dont. Its not a cobra but did come with a very small svt badge on the back.

thats not fair, i may not be a "good" driver on the track but at least i was a safer driver on the roads when i was in high school than most adults on the road.

and why do girls/women get lower rates than men? i've seen just as many bad female drivers as male. infact it was a woman that hit my car (while i was at work) and left the accident scene.

he got ripped off if he paid any more for it than a regular V6....all it was was a badge someone stuck on there. Ford hasn't made a "cobra" or specialty model that WASN'T a V8 since 1988.

your friend either got lied to or he's lying to you.....

Then you are not an "average" teenage male driver..Sorry most of them are idiots. Period.

I was..I freely admit it, then I grew up.

You are referring to women drivers making mistakes...that DOES happen...However most young men are all full of testosterone and EXTREMELY AGGRESSIVE...this causes the worst accidents....I know you've heard of road rage. Be honest, does that more often involve a man or a woman ?

Jackelope November-15th-2005 04:41 PM

^ agree... too much testosterone... from what i can tell, men usually wreck "showing off" in some way... women wreck from "not paying attention"

meGrimlock November-16th-2005 12:16 AM

i too concur, i read somewhere men get into accidents with other moving objects, while women tend to hit inanimate objects. still...i think if a woman hits a male, his insurance should go down to even the score

Jackelope November-16th-2005 05:41 AM

i think i have ran across the "Drive Fast Fords Slow" club... New white GT pulled up next to me @ a red light... reved his motor up a couple of times (it was 2 teenagers ;) ) figured i'd see how bad i would lose... nope... left them too (only got up to 45 though haha) - they did do the "ricer fly-by" though.. then got in front of me and took a right up one of the back roads... - oh well.

chiefmg November-16th-2005 05:17 PM

You should have shown them the way up that back road. My experience has been most people with Mustangs only know how to press the loud pedal, you can have a lot of fun showing them up in the twisties. Not that they would ever admit it to anyone!

Jackelope November-17th-2005 05:40 AM

that back road only has 1 *bad curve* end to end... in fact it only has 3-4 curves... and it was a residential area (35mph) - now... if he would have turned on a road out in the country... :)

Buck November-21st-2005 05:44 PM

I know that this thread is a couple days old but I wanted to throw in my 2 cents. I was watching Rides on tv the other day. I found out that any old shmoe can take his bone stock run of the mill 05 stang and have Roush racing put a complete body accent kit on it and by the time they are done with it, it looks identical to a Saleen

Jackelope November-21st-2005 06:05 PM

^ good chance that is what he did then.. should have smoked me!

Foxxxy December-11th-2005 12:02 AM

There is a non SC version of the Saleen according to my husband- and a slightly modded MSP would have no problems keepin with one- even beating one with a less than average driver. All the non SC version has is a pulley kit.

Jackelope December-12th-2005 05:52 AM

maybe thats what he has? i havent seen him anymore... took it back? HAHA - went and looked on www.saleen.com

i assume this what u are talking about:

http://www.saleen.com/s281_3v_specs.htm

but....
Curb Weight, lb. est 3550 <----
Horsepower 330 bhp @ 5200 RPM <----
Torque 340 lb-ft @ 4500 RPM <----

still should have won... 3550lb / 330hp = ~10lbs/hp
mine... ~ 2800lb / 180hp = ~15.5lbs/hp

so... i dunno...

then again.. maybe the 20" wheelz slowed 'em down

Buck December-15th-2005 08:41 PM

Still should have owned u

Damn! a 250 hp focus? crazy, Im not a huge fan of the Focus but 250 HP is definately not too shabby, at least for a Focus!

ghettopro December-15th-2005 09:15 PM

Here in my town,

the Sherrifs Department confiscated a what looks like a 06 "roush"(sp) Mustang, its all black sittin on 18s or 19s full body kit and full exhuast, i think its supercharged also, its really nice, The Detective who busted him is getting me a CD with a bunch of pictures of it, so ill have that soon.

When they caught the guy they got 45,000.00 in cash off of him and some cocaine..

nice car tho, just to bad the guy was stupid..
