Mazdaspeed Protege meets the KL-323

i completely destroyed a Mazdaspeed Protege during a street race. I shut it down at the end of third because I had about 3 car lengths on it, I wasn't impressed with it at all.

Too bad I wasn't spraying. I'd like to run against one at an auto-x and show the owner the car Mazdaspeed should of made (no offence to MS Protege owners).

Pfff, at least he drives a MSP. Have fun in your LAME Protege!!

Oh yea, why is his car 'LAME'? Because something is faster than your all powerful MSP? Yea, that's not rice-boy mentality...

my c4r is teH f4st3st y0!

Bobby, they run low 15s if they're lucky. You definately faster:)

i know they are not meant to be fast, they are meant to be an awesome handeling car, which they are. when i said i wasnt impressed i meant straight line speed suxd. but in the twisties the car is insane.

I'd think that with equal drivers you'd get raped simply because the MSP has an AWESOME suspension set up and is well balanced whereas you've got a heavier V6 up front. Mind you, I don't know what you've got done to your suspension.

atila August-4th-2003 07:48 PM

I don't understand mazda. They had an good handling with the 323 gtx and gtr and awesome powerplant with the engine powering those car and now the only thing they can do is a car the handle good, come on. The old 1.8l dohc puts out 180hp stock and can stand easely in the 200hp, the new 2l turbo is what 170hp at 7 or 8psi and you have to be carefull not to go to high if you augment the boost not to brake it. By the way an msp will be behind me in a curve has i have the suspension to handle the same curve has the msp but i also have the engine to pull me out of the curve.

Well, mazda picked the wrong engine platform to build the newer proteges on. Shoulda kept the BP, it still alive in the Miata I believe. Ahh well

BobbyCoffins August-4th-2003 11:21 PM

as for how my car will handle, i have H&R springs, tokico struts, 9lbs Enkei rims, and the Mazdaspeed LSD, oh yeah and 205/50/15 Falken Azenis tires.

i think my 323 could hold its own around a auto-x course. I haven't been this year yet, but i'm on a waiting list for the next one. Next on my list is some sway bars and I'm going to swap the MX-3 front and rear disc brakes, or maybe look into getting a custom set.

I'll need the extra braking power once the ZE goes in over the winter. They already fade after I little hard driving.

Hey, lemme know what happens with the brakes. Mine suck, and any upgrade would be welcome. I get some wicked-ass fade... Guess it's the 'heavy' lightweight rims :p

Your brakes fade. you might want to check your system or bleed it or something.. The brakes on my 323 .. literaly will throw me and the passengers out our seats. The seat belts basically hold us in place ..
:D
DRUMS kick major ass... I can lock up my rear brakes and spin the car around ...
whheeoooooweeeee
Bruce

BobbyCoffins August-5th-2003 04:56 PM

normal driving the brakes are fine, but i have this little run through a twisty street and at the end they'll usually be getting soft. i see speeds up to 140kph (80mph?) on this little run. It lasts for about 5 or so minutes of hard driving.

its my 3 in the morning run when no one is around.

Just replaced the pads and fuild... I get brake fade when I'm stopping hard from moderate speeds....

I'm assuming it has to be the wheels/tires, because it used to stop great with the 13s... ahhh well

atila August-5th-2003 08:27 PM

Same trouble here, but it only start after two or three race, the part where you have to brake for 230kph to 100 cause you think there's a cop ahead and anyway the guy is about one kilometer behind you and i have four disc brake.

duncanslx August-13th-2003 01:39 PM

If the MSP is not meant to be fast, why the hell did they turbo it? Certainly not for fuel economy. Maybe im the Dumbed fuck here, but I dont think the turbo will make it handle better. :dunno:

akaveli August-14th-2003 10:40 PM

I kno this is a dumb Question but do anyone have a pic of the 323?

the reason is just because the Taxation for Japanese import cars changed. To stay competitive they had to lift their foot off the HP pedal.

atila August-15th-2003 11:11 AM

Well the speed isn't produce by mazda, it a joint venture with two other compagnie that may explane a good part of it

To bring it to "average" levels.

that's due to the brake lines being heat soaked and just bulging when you apply the brakes. Put in some SSB brake lines. If you still have fade, then you need to opt to pay a little more for better brake pads.
