Mazda3s on Track

I've had my 3 on track at Motorsport Ranch, south of Fort Worth, TX. It did surprisingly well. Understand that I'm not terribly experienced with track driving, but it was very predictable and gave me great feedback. Even though I didn't know what to do with the feedback all the time, it did let me know that I was about to go around. I only spun twice and got a nice rub on the drivers side door from a track-out cone, but there was minimum understeer for a front driver. My friend in his Porsche 924s with suspenesion and track experience was getting 1'34 times. My top time of the day was 1'40. The track was setup reverse direction so my instructor didn't have a ton of experience with the track in that direction. Even so it did give me some great fun on the track with everything on the car stock. I've come to the conclusion that I would much rather have suspension and brakes before any kind of power increase. Lots of fun. I would highly recommend that anyone with interest in track driving find a club that does DE's (Drivers Education) at a local track and sign up for it. In my area the Porsche Club, and BMW club have a few every year. I'd love to get a Mazda club in the DFW area that might be interested in doing something like this. If anyone knows of a local club let me know. I'll take some time and look around this afternoon for one.
