A little fun with a Nissan

Alright this one is going to be short. Me, my friend in a newer model 240SX, '98 Civic EX, and newer Celica, all w/ light mods, went down to Rockingham to go to the Import Race/Show. We all had a good time. They all raced their cars but I didn't because mine isn't running right. Well on the way home the guy in the 240 asked me to race while we're going down the interstate. My car is having problems with the plugs or plug wires or something... plus my timing is too advanced... so I didn't plan on racing anybody. We'll I ended up getting next to him at about 45mph and my friend in the passenger seat started us and I just left him behind:spank:. Turbos are nice:D!! Well then we get to a gas station and he is complaining about something like he doesn't start good from that mph and crap and saying something like he shifted into 2nd and something about me shifting into 3rd and I was like... dude I just left it in 4th gear:laugh:. It was great. When I get it running right I'm sure I'll be even more happy with it. :bt:

How much $$$ did you spend on turboing your engine, and it's attendant parts? Just curious.

sweetprotege93 March-4th-2003 02:07 PM

I haven't added it all up yet but I guessing at about $3500. But trust me... it was worth every penny:nod:! I still have A LOT of things that I want to do to it... but like always it's just a matter of money. I should be pulling in some good $$$ over the summer and most of it is going into that car. :D

Stock KAs with light mods is still slow..believe me:) Tell that guy to come talk to me if he wants to be faster. Nice kill though.

Why do you call it a KA? By the way... he said that he is getting sn SR-20 motor. We'll see..

I got it from Braden (turboge). The turbo and manifold cost $500.

he called it a KA because the 2.4L is a KA24DE model #.

if he's getting an sr20det motor, he's in good shape. trying to get power out of the ka is hard to do. to get serious power, you have to completely rebuild the bottom. the most i've seen(i'm sure someone has gotten more) is 212whp on a stock block. i was told that you can't break the 230whp mark on stock internals, but that's just hear-say.

"The 240SX was first sold in 1989. Until 1991, it was powered by the tough, but unaspiring KA24E. Notice the absence of the “D”. The valve train featured a single cam and only 12 valves. Thanks Nissan! *grumble-grumble* 1991 to 1998 models all featured the same 16 valve DOHC KA24DE with the exception of some small differences."

the '89 and '90 models were pretty slow but, I've read that some of the KA24DE ('91+) guys have run mid 15s with mild mods. turbo KA's can make quite a bit of power (350+whp) but, you're right, it does require build up of the bottom end.

yea sadly the KA are very slow. I have a 1990 240sx outside waiting to get a new heart transplant ( sr20 ) :p Once your friend gets that sr20 motor, ITS A WRAP! Game Over!

I feel a bit sorry for all the USA owners of 240sx's........ what with their POWERFUL ka24de.

In australia as in japan we get the SR20DET.

Sadly all protege's, with or without turbo, will get smoked here :(
But that doesn't stop us from trying :)

itzkcatz April-6th-2003 09:02 PM

I wouldnt say its a wrap. I remeber braden telling me his Turbo protege was beating his roomates turbo 240 with a vJ20 turbo...Jon

sweetprotege93 April-7th-2003 08:46 PM

Thanks Jon I was thinkin' about saying that but I didn't think I would get any support! Apreciate it! :bt: Well lets just see if we can get this Protege back on the road soon!

Nigaud5sx April-13th-2003 11:51 AM

Actually, '91 - '93 240sx Coupe 5sp's (1991 in particular because it had sportier cams) are not slow. They're not fast by any means, but my '93 Coupe will take my Protege5 anyday. And my 240 has an f'ed up clutch, too!

Stock internals on the KA can handle about 230-260fwhp. But, if you have the money to rebuild the bottom end, you can get damn near 500hp, then your tranny will start to go.

But still, 260hp in a 2,700lb car isn't bad.

One of my dream cars is a Black 1991 240sx hatch with an SR20DET, Tein FLEX coilovers, Sparco Torino's in red, Sparce Color2 steering wheel (red/black), Sparco R-Speed shift knob (black/silver) with a T3/T4 turbo upgrade (with all necessary fuel/air/cooling upgrades), 17" 5-Zigen Typhoon wheels in gunmetal(?), limited slip diff, and a whole lot of other goodies.
