Got spanked by a thought to be ricer (NPT?)

Well the story of the night starts out with me and my friend driving around in his 92 eclipse (talked about previously).... he had just taken off his muffler, so we had been cruising and doing a little civic spanking in it... but we stop at the gas station to by beer for later at home... but we see the car that we know as the weedwaker from school, this comes from how it sounds, thinking this guy was just pure rice. But anyways this car is a 95 civic coupe, all riced out with the nice wheels, full body kit, dual 10inch subs and box, type r stickers... fart muffler, etc, etc etc apperance wise...

so we go in grab the beer, and get a dew.... come back out and i find out who owns the car, tell him it looks pretty nice (which it does!), and ask him what he has under the hood, and he says of course nothing..... he asks me if i want to race, and i figured the 2.0liter DOHC, no muffler Eclipse that i was driving (nicks car) would spank him quite well..... so i tell him ill bet 20 bucks up on it, but want to see atleast his trunk (check for nos), and he had two subs, and box, no nos bottle....... but he finally shows us under the hood.... SOHC 1.6 liter (110hp stock), but with a few mods....

of course he had full exhaust, the a CAI, new plugs, MSD ignition, and then the thing we didnt notice till after we raced.... FULL HEADERS!! GDI

but we end up going out and racing at a sweet 1/4 strip of road that i hadnt seen before, i did a perfect run through 3 gears, as did he, and all i saw was his tail lights, he won by almost 2 car lengths

so of course he got my money, and my total respect, because not only did we have on passenger in each car, but he was hauling those subs and that body kit, where as i was in a stock eclipse with more power stock than that civic, with a bigger engine, and no muffler....

but anyways, they were all pretty cool about racing and werent all erogant about their cars and such.... so this guy no longer is on my ricer list, but on my list of guys with bad ass cars

off the subject, anyone who has been reading about my thing and buying a second car, i have found my car and will have it buy july 1,
it is a 1996 Ford Probe GT, 60k miles, white, 5speed, Tan leather, sunroof, spoiler, polished wheels (niiiceeeee), in perfect condition (looks new), oh and of course the 2.5 liter V6... nice and powerful

oh cant wait to see how my driveway looks, two of my own beautys!

oh, forgot to mention, i saw his dyno sheet after the race, 194hp to the front wheels, and 140ft/lbs of torque

194hp/140tq on a 1.6L N/A SOHC motor? I think not. Those most likely weren't headers you were looking at, prolly a Turbo manifold. B16a's with heavy internal work barely reach 195hp in N/A form. However, a win is a win, and if he was pumping out 195hp your eclipse would be further back than 2 car lengths so it sounds like his dyno is BS or he can't drive for crap. :D

Ambient June-3rd-2002 07:32 AM

I doubt it was a turbo too, hopefully you would have recognized a turbo or a supercharger, god help you if you couldn't. But he could have been running som hidden goodies. He could have been completely built, running a higher profile cam and higher compression. Ahh the wonders of all motor.

5SpeedP5 June-3rd-2002 11:56 AM

lol, well i would have noticed a turbo or super.....and there was no NOS in there! i can guarantee that....

who knows

macdaddyslomo June-3rd-2002 12:06 PM

he could have also put that valve cover form the SOHC on a B16,so its like a sleeper... I believe the valve cover will just bolt on....did you take a close look at the timing belt cover??? if you did you might have noticed 2 cam gears...195 whp seems awful high

who knows

would you like to see a pic of my engine bay and tell me i have nitrous or "NOS" as you guys like to call it. My bottle may not be hidden now, but a custom box for the subs can help hide it :)

5SpeedP5 June-8th-2002 02:46 PM

oh ive seen my fair share of cars with nitrous installed on them, sure i saw no bottle, but that ment nothing, i checked that engine bay, there was absolutely no signs of nitrous.... and we all know how it is pretty easy to tell if there is one, hell theres almost always braded steel in there too if there is nitrous.... and there was none of that

but he could have had some in there, but it seemed like he played fairly.....

Internal

With the right internal work on the motor, port and polish, three angle valve job, extruding the intake manifold, larger tb and many other basic mods, I cant see why he isnt pushing that much hp. With even a few more tweeks like knifing the crank, lightened flywheel, dual stage clutch, lsd and some closer gearing, the odds are he can run pretty good and these are mods you dont see. ;)
I would think that you would have heard all that work in the exhaust tone. When an engine is usually worked and massaged like that, the exhaust will usually give it away.
One thing about the Honda driver, he wasnt arrogant and commend him on that.
Good story and race. :D

I should be ashamed damnit:

I raced a nother damn civic with that eclipse at the same spot tonight, one of my friends 2000 Civic EX 2 door (5speed).... so i know its all stock, minus the CAI he just added. so i figured, eh, easy 10 dollars (bet of course)...so i took him out in the eclipse (i dont like racing my p5 anymore....long story)... and ran 2 perfect runs against him.... both times, nothing but damn civic taillights...

maybe that place is cursed, oh well ill hand him his ass sometime when i decided.... oh so shitty

Travis June-14th-2002 12:21 AM

well, the NA Eclipses arent exactly fast :( Run em in your P5 and bet $10 hehe

5SpeedP5 June-14th-2002 12:50 AM

lol i have, i won 30 bucks off him... that was the last time i raced my car,

but still that eclipse puts out what 135hp factory... vs the 120 or so from that D16 honda motor

Travis June-14th-2002 12:52 AM

Obviously the extra HP didn't do it any good? :) The only fast eclipse is the GST, the NA ones are not even worth the cash.

5SpeedP5 June-14th-2002 12:56 AM

well id beg to differ, he only payed 2k for this car and it has 50k miles and a 5speed....perfect condition, but the car is fun as hell to drive! though it handles like shit.

but actually the fast one is the GSX..... 180-200hp i believe with awd, LSD.... fun ass car, i test drove one earlier this week (shopping for a second car, and i thought about that car.... but ill be either a RX7 or a Probe GT)

Travis June-14th-2002 12:58 AM

ahh yes the beloved AWD GSX. True masterpeice! I would take one of those anyday.

5SpeedP5 June-14th-2002 01:07 AM

oh hell yes, and the one i was looking at had 90k miles on it (not bad, compression tested at 7.5, so it was still strong!) it was in perfect condition, with leather, sunroof, spoiler, and a 5speed, all for $3500... but the damn thing got sold before i could snatch it up

Travis June-14th-2002 01:11 AM

damn thats cheap! Those things go for around $7,000 around here

5SpeedP5 June-14th-2002 01:34 AM

thats for sure! probably why it sold so soon.... kinda pissed me off because i wanted that car. oh well though, i found me a nice 1996 probe gt today, so im goin for that as my second car, if you havent heard about that.....

Travis June-14th-2002 01:38 AM

My friend's GF has a 96 Probe GT, pretty neat little car.

5SpeedP5 June-14th-2002 01:46 AM

http://www.wheelsforyou.com/fullsize/270781.jpg
heres a picture of the car i am looking to buy

oh hell yeah its an awesome car, i really almost love it more than my protege (dont kill me please) but once i sat in it, revved it a bit, and drove it i fell in love.... not only is its power awesome, but the seats kick ass.... and the shifter is awesome. Let alone the stock stereo kicks some ass (since i wont be able to upgrade it for a while) with 6 speakers and a sub in the trunk... stock!

i just need to get the dumbasses at teh dealership down to a resonable price, because the car is a bit beaten up interior wise..... the leather is cracked a bit and has a few cuts, there are some scrapings on the plastic and the air vents in the middle are missing..... that and a few other various things....

but they want 7k for it, but im pretty sure from what i heard that these guys will drop alot, im hoping to get it for 5k or so.... we'll see

1fatEs June-14th-2002 02:39 AM

some people like to keep there cars sleeps.....that is why you better think twice before racing a ricer or someone that will say there car is stock with a big:D I have a friend that always comes out to the street races and will tell everyone that all he has done to his 94 civic HB is intake, muffler, vtec controller and a jdm header.....the out side of his car is stock and has 15" black 5 stars(SPOON LOOK ALIKES and weight is about 5pounds each),carbon fiber hood and lowered.................but he never tells everyone it has a jdm h22a motor in it and can run almost 12 flat in 1/4 mile...and he has more done to his car but to much to list

hehe ditto. I take my 93 hatch out to the street races sometimes. People ask what I got, I just tell em its the stock motor with I/H/E. Little do they know its a Built up JDM h22a Turbo :D
