(my dad took it into work tuesday and did the labor himself).

I think with the evidence that you are going to bring with you, you will be just fine! You can always say that your dad did the repairs and you have proof of buying the replacement parts.

One time, I went to court for going 38 in a school zone. 1st day of school and I didn't realize that! I was going to plead no contest and ask for defensive driving. The judge looked at the ticket, found an error (the time wasn't right) and she said "Dismissed!" *Whew*

This is never the correct answer. When presented with this question the answer should always be
"No, I do not know why you pulled me over, is there something that I did wrong?"

This way there is no admission on guilt.

At this point and in this case (the officer would have pointed out your lights being on) You're reply, "O, I did not know that, thank you I will get it looked at right away."

and away you go with a fix it ticket.

Another good question cops present is "Do you know how fast you were going?" and the correct answer to this is.

"I am aware of the speed I was travelling, but I am uncertain as to the speed your equipment indicates, what does it show?"

And if all of this is too much to remember, a simple YES No answer is all that is needed.
