5.8 vs 2.0?

A dude I know from school has a Z71 Extended Cab Chevy Silverado 4x4 with a 5.8L engine. Could my stock 2.0L Protege stand any chance against such a huge engine? I think I might have a decent chance just because his truck is very heavy and when he slams on gas it bawls the tires for a second before accelorating while my car just zips* off the line.

what do you folks think?

* I use the term "zip" loosely

If you have a manual, you should be about neck-and-neck. You've got a chance. Go for it.

nate0123 February-10th-2003 06:35 PM

BTW, 5.8?

Probably either 5.7 or 5.3

FlyingProtege02 February-10th-2003 08:18 PM

maybe it is a 5.7
its not that big of a differance

and no on the manual, i have an automatic :( i didnt know much about cars when i got the Pro so i got an auto

In that case, I'm not sure you can beat him. Might be fun to try though. :dunno:

Hell Nah! lol On Motor Week TV, they said that truck does 0-60 just over 7 seconds. Well, they tested the Silverado and I don't think the extended cab will be too far behind.

*This is what I say on t.v*

But it wouldn't hurt to try.:)

If it's a 5.7, it's the past generation model. I think the 4x4 models with auto go 0-60 in the mid-eights.

My friend's dad has a silverado ext. cab 2500 or whatever they are... It's defiantely quick for a huge-ass truck. Run him for fun, who cares who wins? :)

Redfyre February-11th-2003 11:25 AM

I have a friend who has one of those big ass trucks too. And knowing my P5, I'm not entirely sure I can take him in a straight race. The P5 is a great car but I'm not gonna try to kid anyone, it's not as fast as it should be or as I would like it to be.

No worries, you'll SMOKE him. Just make sure that there's a couple of corners on your race-track!:D

My 10 year old 5.7 liter 4 speed dump truck will rock ur protege. I would hope that 350 pickup would also if its a stick u have no chance. But have fun racing him if u win hes a sucky driver ...Jon

protege563028 February-11th-2003 03:37 PM

I'd try it as long as there was NO money on it.

But if there are turns BET MONEY!!!

Redfyre February-11th-2003 08:41 PM

Yep, I'd have to agree in a flat out straight course we just might get our asses handed to us. But throw in some corners and we should be able to hold our own with most cars out there.

My dad has a '94 suburban with the 5.7 that ive driven quite a bit. Its an auto and absoutley sucks off the line with all that weight to move and suspension travel to soak up. But once it gets goin, the torque hits quick and it hits HARD!!! Ive seen guys running their 3/4 and 1 ton trucks and suburbans/excursions at the drag strip and its haliarious. Their 60' times suck, then they roar down the track only to hit top speeds at like 80. Not many can turn in a time in the 16's. ;) ;) Dakota R/T's and S-10 SS's can hit 14's stock with their short suspensions and lighter weight though, but a Z-71 with huge travel and mudders, go smoke his ass!!

Yeah ive driven a 95 suburban also and its a dog off the line but its to be expected with a 4500 pound suv ...Jon
