323 vs escort gt !

on my way home from school my school mate who's got a 91-94 escort lx w/ gt swap motor and tranny, and my 323 w/ bp motor was finally able to race after months of waiting....

at the lite. About to make a left turn i was behind him ( i already told him to take off cuz i want to race him to see if ican catch up) as the lite turn green he took off and so did i. Redlined my 1sst gear (still behind him) then shift it to 2nd redlineing it iwas beside him and then when i shifted 3rd i was 1/2 car length infront of him till i hit 6,400 rpm. I had to slow down cuz i need to merge on the freeway. I cant believe it! imagine if it was an even race i would've been 1 1/2 car in front of him. By the way i forgot to tell u guys there was a 96 accord trying to chase us but he was like 4 cars away from us.:D

escort lx w/ gt motor and gt tranny, cone filter, pacesetter headers, no carpet, no rear seats, no interior door side trims, no head linings, no a/c, no power steering, stock 14" rims, no spare tires or jack, dohc vaf sensor,

91 323 w/ bp motor n/a, pacesetter headers, cone filter, magnecore wires, stock sohc vaf, i have all the se model got except for the a/c or the power steering, 60lbs of tools in the trunk and 2 back packs that weigh 30 lbs atleast...by the way i am rolling on my sohc tranny, 15" rims.

i heard the lx tranny from a protege is suppose to be better than the sohc. but then wut happen on that race? my car dont idle right. it hesitate on my 1k to 3,500 rpm. could it be the weight difference? I dont think its the driver i have rode on his car before i did the swap.

For one, the gears are slightly longer in the F series tranny. The G series tranny is STRONGER, so yes it's 'better', but running low hp and low torque through it like with the NA BP, you're not really going to run the risk of breaking it.

So the combination of low weight, and possibly slightly taller gears would definately contribute to you pulling on him. I'd be surprised if you didn't :D

I told someone on this board that already and they did not believe me ... Wil knows this when we did a top speed run last year in Carlisle

Shit yea, dude... Freakin' a... My protege @ 60 in 5th gear is turning like 3k!!!! :( But my 323 is turning just over 2500, like 2550 or 2600... Assuming tach inaccuracies, it's still about 500 rpm... that's pretty huge!

I don't really know how the DX auto tranny compares... but at 3k RPM I'm doing about 80mph! I was probably doing something like 107mph at 5500rpm on the track before I had to shut down for the curves... though I can't be certain about that, especially since the speedo/tach isn't necessarily accurate...

cool.....i dont think i would need to swap my sohc tranny for a dohc one. Im keeping my engine stock internals just bolt ons so i wont be worrying about breaking my tranny, plus the only thing that would cause the tranny to break is if u never change the fluid, run out of fluid, power shifting it, or too much torque.

It should have been a pretty close match.. What year was the lx ? Around 92+ they gained some weight.

Good kill dude, very impressive. Your buddy is smart for taking that 1.9 out and throwing in the 1.8 lol

sorry dude.. My mom had an lx and blew the motor at 85k.. that stung. Our GTs are great though. Plus the lx had very little power.

r u talking about the lx pro or the lx escort? cuz the lx escort for sure no doubt that engine sucks! but w/ the gt (escort) bp is good engine.
