10-6-01 Races

Alrighty...I met a new group of guys/girls that were about 10x's more coordinated than my previous bunch. Serious to god street racers that take no BS...The races last about 4 hours, starting at around 12:30. They had a unique assortment of walkytalkies scouts and certain cars with radars detectors. It was pretty funny hearing the beeping noises and flashing lights in a car and about 40-50 seconds later see a cop car. Giving everybody enough to pretty much to look less suspicious...all in all, 2 cops cars and neither stopped. It was a far astray from the uncoordinated racing I did before, which was an uneventful stop and go on a back road and back to the hangout to "talk" about it.

But to the races...
I only participated in two because I wanted to see what the guys were about.

Suzuki Esteem - there was a no chance race of about 3 car lengths and still pulling away from him. But he was quicker than I thought. The guy had problems...first of all, when he raced a Mirage or Galant....he pegged his rev limiter so much it was unreal. Not just a littlebit I mean the guy hit the limiter and stayed there....then he had the entire damn road stinking cause he raced with his parking brake up twice.

One Focus ZX3 - I have a lot of respect for these cars but this guy talked so much trash it was unreal. Normal bolt ons and some nice chrome 17's weighing him down. On our first race I won by a doorlength, give or take a foot...He said I jumped the gun. So we went again this time beat him by half a car. He was pretty ticked off. I really would like to race a decently modded good driver in one of these, it would be a great race.

Other races:
Prelude SH(I think, please correct me) with pretty much every NA mod except for new pistons vs. stock Z28. That was an awesome race if I've ever seen one....both drivers were top notch, the Z28 won, but it was close until the final stretch, I was at the start line so I didn't see the distance.

Suzuki Esteem vs. Galant. The Galant jumped on him like crazy...started a good half a second before, but the Esteem caught up and passed him in 2nd, that's when he did his little excessive rev limiter testing. Couldn't see the end though.

There were more races but I feel this post has been getting long winded. I personally like to hear longer stories than someone saying "we lined up and I beat woohoo"

Since we're on the subject..... I've been to one of those here in Vancouver area......

It was night of the fireworks, so not a lot of people showed up apparantly from what they said (my first time there). Usually there's a couple of 300zx's and RX-7s that show up, but anyways that night everybody wussed out for some reason. There was only one race the whole night, this GTI VR6 with NOS(not sure about the setup) vs. this 1976 Regal. From what my friend told me that knew everybody there, the Regal guy changed pretty much the whole engine, changed the gears, everything......
And anyways, they both did really nice little burnouts to warm up the tires then lined up and the Regal had him off the start, but after spinning out a little in the second and third gears I could tell that GTI got him in the end, but it was a really close race.
Oh yeah, the GTI wasn't supposed to use NOS and race this other RX-7 that was there ('88 or one of that gen), and when they raced, the RX-7 was killing him until he pulled a bit closer all of a sudden, hmmmm can ya smell it (NOS).... it does smell funny by the way

Anyways, Ambient, from what I got, you beat the Esteem by about three carlengths? How long was the race, like the distance, and what speed would you be going at near the end of the race.......
