new pics of best weekend ever! [updated]

EDIT: check out new pics on next page!

i am convinced this is the best way to end an 8-day, 56 hour, non-stop work week. i had to call my parents to bring my digital camera from home but it was worth it!

and last but not least, my favorite picture of them all!
http://home.comcast.net/~ptan/front-qrt-wreck.jpg

i realize i have no room to complain. the only reason why i have the car is because i totalled my old one. but at least the other car and i were moving in traffic which means reduced reaction time and idiotic timing on my part. this lady hits my car in a parking lot. what gets me is my car is in an accident and it wasnt doing any of the moving. the lady left the scene w/o so much as to feign interest in looking for the owner of the car she just hit. i think she paniced and thought she might get away with it. luckily there were witnesses who did try to find me because they wrote down her plates. the cops who i filed the report with traced her plates and she came back saying she meant to call w/ my license plate info. i cant wait to see what the damage looks like in the daytime. sigh...i hope the insurance companies can sort this out. btw - does this qualify as a hit and run? arent those felonies?

w......t........f.......

dude....thats horrible man. obviosuly it's not totaled but what are you planning on doing with it??

JHew84 March-21st-2005 04:13 AM

that does qualify as a hit and run, and yes it is a felony, in michigan if someone leaves the scene of an accident their insurance (or themselves if they have none) is responsible for ALL of the repairs, you dont even have to make a claim with your own insurance (cha-ching!) because everything is done through theirs, and if they dont have insurance, the state garnishs their wages to pay back whatever expenses you would have received from their insurance company...

that sucks though, take that bitch for all you can, i hate people with no honor that think they can pull some shit like this off and get away with it, hope it all works out for the best man

Holy shit! Well...it's time to upgrade!

meGrimlock March-21st-2005 08:48 AM

thanks guys & gals. well since it was my best weekend ever, i plan on having a drink! after the drink, anyone know how to go about getting the bumper replaced with a msp/mp3 bumper? think i can get the insurance to pay for it or will they stick with the stock bumper? i dont mind the stock bumper - it'd be a good opportunity for an msp bumper, it has a more aggresive look plus the round fogs look a little cooler.

if that is considered a hit & run, i wonder why the cops didnt give her a ticket or something. they could have given her a citation when they drove to her house and brought her back to the accident scene i guess.

Consult a lawyer...just in case.
Gotta cover your ass man.

Phantom Cruiser March-21st-2005 10:20 AM

Man...there have been quite a few of these incidents lately...guess these a-holes don't want to own up to what they've done and so they instead stick us with $$$ in damages!!!!

Roddimus Prime March-21st-2005 10:33 AM

judging by your hood and headlights the msp bumper should bolt right on. If you get a butt-load from insureance let me know...we'll get you a postert bumper!

Racing Beat March-21st-2005 10:44 AM

mmm postert...bummer bout your car though

since its not your insurance company, they should just cut you a check for whatever the estimate of damages is...assuming there is no frame damage you can just buy the pieces and have then painted and installed....YOu should be able to buy MP3 bumper but you will need the grill, rebar, foglights, and wheel well splash guards

BTW, Michigan is at the top of the list when it comes to the frequency of hit-and-run accidents.

i talked to a co-worker of mine. he says he learned the hard way that you have to wait 24 hrs to make a police report/file claim. after 24 hrs its legally considered a hit & run and i can press charges. a hit & run happened to his fiancee and when the cops got there, he told the police to wait 24 hrs so he could take the other motorist to court. so unfortunately the police who helped me went and got her back to the scene (prob cuz they didnt want to file any hit & run paperwork) and we exchanged info.

as far as replacing the bumper with a MSP/MP3 bumper, from what i can see the reinforcement bar (thick gray bar) is all kinds of bent, the styrofoam cushion is sticking out, the left wheel well is torn up, my front grill is ripped apart, my headlamps are scraped, my fender looks misaligned. it looks like i'll have to replace most of the msp conversion parts anyway. i found a thread on msprotege from someone who did the conversion themselves and listed the part numbers used. please please please please please let this be a blessing in disguise!

BULLSHIT!!!

A hit and run is a hit and run.

See...just like I said...consult a lawyer man...it's FREE to get a consultation...and they can do it over the phone. Would you rather take your co-worker's word for it or a certified professional??? Ummm....I guess I can't blame you...you're a robo-dinosaur...robo-dinosaurs aren't smart....lol...just kidding of course!!

Dude...do yourself a HUGE favor...trust me and call...there's a POT OF GOLD waiting for you...don't get lazy and throw it away!

Let us know what happens!

Honestly I beleve she she\ould get the book thrown at her, I bought my car and within 5 days I had a hit and run dent my trunk (I was hit from the rear a few months later and they fixed it all up at the same time) and within 2 months, 5 hits all in the rear, ALL HIT AND RUNS. I dont drive to work, I use the subway (IMPOSIBLE TO FIND Parking, and to park in the building is $280.00 a month) and I have to leave my car parked on the street. Its a REAL BITCH to go to your car find it dented and not have someone to break apart. (It would almost (ALMOST) be worth it if I could catch them................oohhhhhhhh how much fun that would be.

THROW THE BOOK AT HER I BET THIS IS NOT THE FIST TIME SHE HIT SOMEONE ELSE IM SURE, and LOOKING AT THE DAMMAGE, SHE MUST OF BEEN A REAL (shit cap locks were on, forget about that) Idiot

kmaalfiisa March-24th-2005 08:54 PM

damn man, that sucks... thats deffinatly a hit and run.. you should have asked who she was gonna call ( and before she came, shoud've taken them plates off, and keep them in your custedy) then ask her what plate #'s she was going to use. if its identical, you'd be able to believe that she was gonna call..

this has happend to my sister. she came out of her job place and saw her car dented on its rear.. called it in, filled report. they found hiter that ran. before they came to house, off came the plates.. hitter and runner didn't even glance at the plates when they hit the car

meGrimlock March-24th-2005 09:26 PM

well she wrote it down on a coupon - so she could really have meant to call, or my mom theorized that she probably wrote it down incase she was found out and then had something to show that she intended to report it.

Id say it was a cover up, if she had any intention of honesty she would have stayed there...what kind of dumb@** hits a car and leaves thinking ill call them later about the car i just hit....

people in this world...

update! bumper repaired!

well the other lady's insurance paid for the parts that were damaged and the labor. that means the bumper cover, headlight, grille, paint & install was replaced at no charge to me. however i had to pay out of pocket for the rest. finally turned this pain in the neck around and got something out of it. no fogs to save some $$$. the installer left the harnesses for another time. i have to call them and see if they still have the ES fogs, might try to sell those and put that towards mp3/msp fogs. i bought rickman's used protege5 front license plate bracket and i hope it fits cuz they had to screw the plate directly on the bumper. other than that im pleased with the results. now i have to wait for nascar05's side skirts ^_^

some quick pics:

thanks goes to this thread over at msprotege.com: http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23762 for the parts list and part numbers. btw, anyone know how to aim the headlights? thanks.
-meGrimlock

kmaalfiisa April-13th-2005 09:14 PM

they usually say drive your car (facing a wall) park about 10 feet in front of wall (car is facing wall) then you would haveto pop the hood, turn lights on (be sure to draw a box of where you would like you lights to piont) and there should be a twisty thingy behind the bolb and wires, in which you would turn with a phillups screwdriver, thus turning the light bolb itself and changing the direction of the light produced..

meGrimlock April-13th-2005 09:22 PM

thanks, i remember the screws to adjust the aim was a little easier to find on the 1995 protege.

kmaalfiisa April-13th-2005 09:46 PM

car looks good btw

whats gonna happen with the "ditch and call bi***"

(maybe she doesn't deserve the word, but hit and run??? come on, its just assigning her a name for her crime)

meGrimlock April-28th-2005 03:31 PM

when i 1st got the car back i noticed some glue on the headlights when i opened the hood to take a look at the bumper install. i thought it looked odd, but didnt think anything serious of it. when i brought the car to the dealer to adjust the headlights they told me that my passenger headlamp housing had been glued back together and they didnt want to adjust it past a certain point because it might cause more stress on the headlamp at the glued sections. holy crap, what else could go wrong. the dealership suggested that the body shop might have glued it together to save on parts rather than order a new headlamp ($157). i think the body shop shouldve called the lady's insurance to get them to reimburse me. gonna ask the body shop about it as soon as i get some free time.

mazpro2 April-28th-2005 11:17 PM

that's messed up, they did it just to save some money. but the car looks good.

slayer4u May-1st-2005 09:38 PM

Here in Washington that is considered felony hit and run punishable by $5000 plus the state requires the defendent or their insurance to pay for any damages as well as any medical fees that you inccur.they will also revoke their license for 7years. It is not considered Hit and run however if you leve a note explaining what happend as well as your drivers license number and info on how to contact them. If they do not respond to any atempts to contact them then it is considered a hit and run. Also if the defenant in the hit and run is for any reason unable to pay ALL of the fees they will get 4years probation for witch they will have to pay all fees within that time. If for any reason they have not payed their debt in full by the end of their probation they can be imprisoned for a maximum of 2 years. If this happens the govenment will give you comensation far any remaining damages.

meGrimlock May-1st-2005 09:49 PM

looks like we exchanged insurance information and filed the claim & police report before the 24 hours, which means that it LEGALLY wasnt a hit & run. it wouldve been damn fine to put that woman in jail (take that insurance companies who make females pay lower premium than males) but at least i got an msp/mp3 conversion out of it.
