Roddimus Prime February-28th-2006 12:41 AM

Is this serious?? I can't even reply back until I give it time to sink in.....

macdaddyslomo February-28th-2006 08:07 AM

I can....please to research into the legalities of this...part of the trouble of importing JDM cars IS the right hand drive...

There's only room enough for ONE JDM-whore...and that's me...lol.
Ok seriously, if you want to undertake it, it's going to cost you a nice tidy sum of money.
You can either import a RHD through Canada, Mexico, or most of the Caribbean countries....or the REALLY expensive way from Europe or Japan.
A good place to start is MOTOREX...they are the numero uno in importing JDM cars etc. try the www.wheelsjamaica.com boards....they may be able to help you out.
Either way...good luck you lil' whore.

There is nothing illegal about having a RHD car in the states. It will be hard to overtake other car on back roads. And good luck with the drive thur ATM.

Oops...I missed this...thanks David for rehashing.
Yes, nothing illegal at all. I see RHD cars on base all the time.

macdaddyslomo February-28th-2006 02:48 PM

no it's's not ILLEGAL, however there are issues with getting a JDM car registered, as it needs to be NHTSA approved....

be my guest and spend THOUSANDS on a RHD conversion and then you can get a better look at my RIGHT taillight :pat:

03BJFW February-28th-2006 02:53 PM

i can almost promise my current lack of skill would be even lower with a RHD...but then again the local mustangs need a break in the MNTS

Ok...I'm going to ask you this for your own good....
How old are you?

You don't need a RHD car to beat Mustangs. You just need some ingenuity.
www.msprotege.com
Go ask over there, I'm sure they'll be able to help you.
:tightass:

03BJFW February-28th-2006 03:33 PM

no i'm not saying that...i can beat the mustangs now...i'm saying if i had RHD my skill would drop till i learned to drive it and they would have a break...Mustangs are slow in the Mnts.

JDM-P5 February-28th-2006 03:42 PM

Think about what you just typed. Think really hard. Don't post til you've really thought it over.
But please, take my advise and post up over on the other site. They are extremely helpful.
Don't bother w/the RHD conversion...way too much money & it will not help you on the mountains. Driving skill will help you on the mountain roads. What you NEED to do, is go find yourself a nice Miata or 240sx and go play around with one of those instead of wasting your money on something a trvial as a RHD conversion. Go join SCCA and run in the auto-x...that will help you immensely. Want RHD, move to another country where it's a necessity not a "nice-ity".

Seriously bud, how old are you? Because you are definitely not thinking rationally here.

That is all.
:)

macdaddyslomo February-28th-2006 03:47 PM

Phil, you crack me up.

03BJFW February-28th-2006 03:55 PM

i knew this was a bad question to ask, but i was just trying to find out some useless knowledge for a later date. As far as my age...i'm 17,will be 18 in 2 days. I have been running the mountains every chance i can since i got my car(summer 2004). i'm not one of those stupid kids that thinks he's invincible i know i can die just like anyone else. thank you for your concern JDM-P5 but i check my car before every pass in the mountains and street"racing" isnt cool its retarded so dont worry i'm just a driving enthusiast like you.

sorry to rant but us "kids" get a bad wrap b/c of these "Fast & Furious" ricer wannabes

i assume thats what you meant in asking my age

Actually...no.
I was assuming that you didn't know wtf you were talking about...not that you were a ricer....it's obvious, that you are just a young kid. I was the same way...sort of. Except, I grew up watching my father race through sugar cane fields w/an old school mini cooper. Sometimes being lucky enough to ride shotty for an asphalt stage. I'm used to going to my uncles' shop as a teen and giving a helping hand on the old EVO GSRs...this being before most knew what the heck an Evolution even was.

i knew this was a bad question to ask, but i was just trying to find out some useless knowledge for a later date.
My thoughts exactly....I nor anyone else for that matter could've said it better!

thank you for your concern JDM-P5 but i check my car before every pass in the mountains and street"racing" isnt cool its retarded so dont worry i'm just a driving enthusiast like you.
Actually...better than me.
I didn't check my tires last time and blew 2 tires up @ Cheaha *Matty....no comments!*

Point is, yes, you are young & this is (I'm guessing) your first car *I'm assuming this*...take your time, learn your car...just because you've been on the mountains and "street" racing...doesn't make you "an enthusiast like me". Talking to ppl like TurboMattyP and hanging w/ppl like that who have extensive knowledge about cars...Going to auto-x's (I drive 1.5 hours each way just to go)etc. that's where the learning curve is. Learning the ins & outs of your vehicle is where you need to be. Running Deal's Gap or Tail of The Dragon or any mountain pass as an unexperienced teeny bopper isn't. Oh, & I'll answer for Matty...."you'd be surprised what some Mustangs will do....blah blah" He'd say something to that effect....anyway...you didn't think hard enough.

03BJFW February-28th-2006 04:27 PM

ok so i can see where you're coming from you're right i am a kid but the only way to learn is to drive i go to the auto-x in Clemson every now and then, not as much as i should but i'm trying. and i know there are Mustangs out there that are probably handling monsters but i live in SC its 1/4 miles and NOS around here which i hate. thats really cool the way you grew up, unfortunately i didnt have those options i lived with a bunch of women for most of my childhood. and as i said i dont street race i think its stupid. my STEP-dad is a fantastic driver he has a Triumph Spitfire that i have driven two times (its kind of his baby). the truth is i'm not "experienced" but i'm trying to learn so that does make me a driving enthusiast by definition and at heart.

JDM-P5 February-28th-2006 04:40 PM

Now you're on the right track....We'll finish this convo when I get off work.
Til then...my friend...too-doo-loo.

Roddimus Prime February-28th-2006 07:57 PM

I'd be willing to race any car on this forum (karen's focus included) in my 4cyl mustang....all I'm promising is that the car will be a mustang and only 4cyl...everything else is fair play.

p.s. back on topic. 03bjfw, if you plan on learning how to drive better and mod you car you need a clear plan of attack first. I can't stress this enough. Start off by telling people what your end goal is...then we can help you get there.

yeah i mean it wasnt a super serious thing about the RHD i was just asking if anyone knew about them...i plan on going full suspension and stiffening the chassis and just building a strong motor not some insane turbo fed monster just something that can hold up at higher RPMs

p.s. thanks for help and not a badgering/argument

13B FC3S February-28th-2006 08:26 PM

JDM-P5 your too funny. you act like a mentor or something. like you've done everything and experienced it all. you are 26 if i am correct, just because 03BJFW isnt tickling your fancy; it doesnt mean you have to act like a dissapointed dad.
Deal's Gap is "whatever clever phrase you used". umm k. lol. right. towards summer you should come to NC and drive.
Seriously though, be more curteous. being a forum whore doesn't mean that you have to act like a father to people that have under 3,000 posts in one year.

:Kill1: i just started my seven.

testing the sig

03BJFW February-28th-2006 08:51 PM

what about hills or off camber turns or multi-apex turns...how do i learn about that at auto-x? how do you learn how to drive those by talking to people? i know how...you cant you have to drive them and learn.

Roddimus Prime February-28th-2006 09:31 PM

<~~~ also an FC owner in the process of a massive build. Should have no pics within a week of the fresh paint and body.

Naw man...I was just giving him a hard time. I know all about Deal's Gap & Tail of the Dragon...I didn't want to come across as a dissapointed dad. I'm 24.
I haven't done everything. And most of all, I'm very sarcastic. I hope you can see that. I am THE nicest person you'd ever meet. :)
Just ask Matty.

95Protege April-9th-2006 10:45 AM

As far as the rhd you can do it rationally guys....There are 5 or 6 cars i knowof withing 30 minutes of me all hondas but rhd. Hell there are even 2 skylines in memphis tn which is 1 1/2 hours.

2 nissan trucks close by that are rhd so before anyone acts like its some dumb fantasy rethink it

just my 2 cents...

Boosted Orange April-23rd-2006 12:22 PM

Fukusdm....i<3jdm

Roddimus Prime April-23rd-2006 01:38 PM

no'one said it was a dumb fantasy....we said it was a waste of money for an economy car.

13B FC3S April-24th-2006 12:48 AM

roddimus prime, i think your avatar sais it all... if someone wants a RHD conversion, by all means; go do it. its what makes something unique in the U.S. im considering doing it to my RX7. all thats left besides wanting to is money. it costs a lot of dough to do this to a 91 rx7 and i cant imagine for an 03 protege 5. labor is where it kills you. but the money could go into better places than changing where you sit driving your car with the same power, braking, suspension, etc. ive realized that im going to just put it on the backburner until im rich.

03BJFW April-24th-2006 02:25 AM

That is the reason i stopped even coming to this forum...this was just a question so i could find a price...it was never even on the front burner it was just a question...13B is right if someone wants it let them shoot for it weither its smart or not its what makes that person happy...i'm done with this someone lock it or delete it or something

dudeondacouch April-24th-2006 05:35 AM

You wanted the price? Here it is: For the price of converting your car to RHD and having everything work and look as it should, you can get ANOTHER 2003 Protege5.

Roddimus Prime April-24th-2006 09:22 AM

He's pouting now that no'one thinks it's a worthwhile job?? What a sissy.

How much would it cost to convert the car to RHD? It may be cheaper to just buy a Used Sport20 and import it over. While you're at it get the AWD version that everyone says they're going to build but never do then convert it to a 20B and make it RWD since you don't mind sinking $20K into a compact econo-cruiser.

dudeondacouch April-24th-2006 10:23 AM

It's like reconfiguring the wiring in a keyboard so that the keys are in alphabetical order instead of the QWERTY arrangement. Or maybe to have your name as the home row!
