WTB '02 Protege DX driver side interior door handle

Hi, I've looked all over the web for a driver's side interior door handle for my wife's '02 Protege, but I can't seem to find this. I did see something for a '95 protege for like 10 bucks, but wasn't sure it would fit, besides, it wasn't chrome. I'm reading the dealer wants to sell this part for about $45 dollars which is kinda scary since it's their fault this cheap crap is plastic and not metal to begin with. Anybody have a DX (manual) door handle for the driver's side or driver passenger side (same lever pull on both doors) for sale? Please post your price plus shipping cost, thanks!

Hi,

Here's a link for the 99-03 Protege catalog:

Nice of them to post that for us. I'd save a copy of that for future reference. Note that the front or rear left side are one part number, and the front or rear right side are a slightly different part number

These turkeys say they have them, but alas, they apparently don't speak English "cause they no how reply":

Do a search for S54N-58 .

Please let me know if you find a reasonably priced source. Yes, these plastic door handles are crap and their designer, if still alive, should be taken out and flogged in public for all to see.

Seems to me that this is a major safety issue. If you're in an accident, and can't get out because the door handle just went to poop in your hand, what do you do to get out? There's plenty of chatter on the web with other Protege owners having this same safety/quality issue.

I'm now searching for my second one in less than a year. Paid $35US wholesale for the first one.

Regards,
Brcobrem
