ebay intakes do you no good whatsoever.. they are 3 inch in diameter, 100% of the time come with a 90 degree bend off of the throttle body.. just not worth your time. your ideal intake piping diameter IS 2.5 inch.. this is considered to be the best balance in performance. to get the intake piping, i would recommend having an exhaust shop weld you up a 2.5 inch pipe in the same shape as your intake pipe. the pick up a few silicone hose adapters and hose clamps to slap that puppy in. then simply, all you have to do is drill a small hole in the side of the pipe for the valve cover breather and screw a brass fitting into the side. however, if you search for mazda protege filter, you will find combined sets of intake filters w/ intake adapters. basically, you have to rip out your factory air box to get this to work, but it cuts the restrictive air intake your car came with and allows your car to breath REAL nice, and will also give your car a constant hiss to it. it's not a bad thing and is really your only method to get a cold air intake without spending over 100 bucks at http://www.corksport.com. and even so, the top portion of the piping hasn't even been mocked up by PRM yet, and i don't think they ever will. with a cone fitler and adapter, it's about as good as a cold air intake as it will sit right behind the driver's side headlight... air will be PLENTY cold for your means. i hope this helps.
