GI: custom WOMP headunit for sale

I'm just throwing out a feeler to see if anyone would be interested in the one-off supercharger I had made for P5. This is NOT the complete kit but just the headunit I built it around.

Some of the interesting specs on it are that it is internally oiled and self-sealed. You can change the gear oil on it like a car but it doesn't use engine oil so it keeps heat down in the charge. Secondly, it's a direct gear drive so there is no more belt slipping or breaking. Also the fabulous gear whine is back and it is LOUD. If you want attention this will do it. It has a 4" compressor inlet and a 3" compressor outlet. It uses a fully forged straight-fin compressor wheel which increases upper rpm compressor speeds by reducing drag. There is no loss of low end due to the straight fin over a curved fin because of the size of the blower.

The only flaw with the unit is that the rubber seal between the compressor housing and the chassis was torn during some service work and I haven't made another yet. Industrial plumbing supply stores should have a large enough rubber gasket that could be used to seal the compressor tightly again.

Right now I don't have any ideas of price or what I'd ask for it. I paid a little over $1900 for one blower to be cut and built so I've got a little bit in it. I figure $600-700 would be fair but I'm open to offers.

Anyone interested?

What happened to the complete setup? Any pics of this charger?

I'm holding onto the rest of the kit. Just being selfish I guess but I don't want anyone else getting credit for it.

someone local to me with a blue mp3 took pictures of my blue p5 and tried passing them off as his car. Sadly though he did this to people who knew me and had seen the car in person.

Yeah, I can get you some detailed pictures later tonight.

Don't rush with pics, I'm just curious. No money for the extras like that and that would be a labor of love to design such a system, your a pretty ingenious person.

wait until you see the pics of what I'm working on now.....it'll boggle the mind...and the brain...and your head.

Wish this thread had sound, I would have loved to hear it whine.

That was a good post and I still stand behind it 100%. Sadly, being a one-man-crew I couldn't pull it off in mass production but given my own shop and tools I'd be pumping them out today.

Just fyi, my new stuff will turn the protege community on ear. Nothing like this ever for a protege. As soon as I get a decent donor vehicle I'll start throwing out more subtle hints.

I had a couple videos posted but if you ask around several of the members here not only heard/saw my car in person but drove it as well. I don't think the SC was audible at all except the whoosh between gears as the bypass opened and VTA'd

here are some of the actual pics of the headunit in question. The body was cut from 100% billet aluminum and the compressor housing was sand cast so it's a little dimpled on the exterior but in no way affects performance. This was the preliminary blower used for the final production kit.

Notice in the second pic the oil fill and drain bolts in the side and bottom of the chassis. This is used as it's own contained oiling system. You'd want to change the 90w gear oil out every few thousand miles at the cost of about $7 and 15 minutes of labor!

I'm open to offers but will probably re-use this on another application in the future if the offers get too low.

nm... linky no work...

That really cool but I think without the rest of the kit it would be too costly and it does eliminate the A/C but very cool. I was actually expecting a system like the Tierra kit.

if someone wanted to buy the headunit they could keep the ac...they'd just have to figure out how.

That taiwanese roots blower is weaksauce and won't flow for shit on a fs-de. I think I saw the maximum output of that thing was 201bhp.... That's their highest output version.

my blower on 4.5psi non-intercooled and on a basemap made 160whp. The blower is good for 300+whp.

^ Wow...what a difference between technologies. Thats awesome.

Roddimus Prime November-20th-2007 11:06 AM

they're kit would be competitive if they were using a better blower. A more logical choice would've been the MP62 4th gen blower with built-in bypass bu it wont fit....ask me how I know.

their blower = way too small...it's the same one from the mini cooper and mercedes 230 kompressor.
