cams

does anyone know where i can find cams for a 2000 protege es 1.8L? why does everyone hate the j-spec cams? also could i put 2.0L cams in a 1.8L car?

Roddimus Prime April-5th-2004 09:41 AM

I don't "hate" the j-spec cams...I just think if you pay for "better" cams you should get more power...all Ive ever seen the j-spec cams lost overall power while only increasing peak power by 3hp. Total waste of money.

Not sure about the 2.0-1.8 cam swap.

how did u get to know about the cams your getting if its not on the website?

Roddimus Prime April-5th-2004 09:59 AM

Because I'm good friends with the owner of the shop! And we talk on the phone almost everyday! and I've got mine ordered!

Topher April-5th-2004 03:14 PM

i have the j-spec cams! but i do plan on investing in a set from perfworks...the wife can put my j-spec cams in her mp3.

Roddimus Prime April-5th-2004 03:19 PM

Topher, did you notice a consistant gain throughout the powerband that made you feel like they were a good investment?

Every dyno I've seen shows an overall loss of power but a spike thats about 3-5hp higher than stock.

Everyone Ive known that put the Intake cam in their 2.0L felt good gains. Mazdamotor sports shows 12HP gains when they dynoed. I know alot of times manufacturers fudge on their numbers to get better sales but the deal with MMS is they are a race team. They arent in this to sell product, they want to get Mazdas out there winning races to make Mazda look better. Not make 150.00 on a cam. So, they arent goign to give you blown up numbers to try & sell some extra cams. Ive sold a ton of the Intake cam & everyone seems very happy with them. The Intake cam will fit the 98+ FS engines which includes the newer 1.8L & 2.0L I know.

Topher April-6th-2004 07:44 AM

i was impressed with them...of course, maximum gain will be seen once i have an exhaust...i think they're a good investment...for what it's worth, i'm not going to get rid of them once i get new cams...i'm just gonna toss them in the wife's car. she won't know what hit her.

protege5online is there any place to buy these cams besides your website? is there a exhaust cam too? are there any pictures and prices for them?

Roddimus Prime April-7th-2004 12:57 AM

Mitch, so you're saying the 2.0L cams will fit in the 1.8L motors?? If this is the case then I need to update my thread in the vendor section.

The MSP cams I've seen on the dyno showed little to no gain and most time an overall loss of torque. I'm not trying to bash anyones product but I don't think a back-toback comparrison of the MSP cams and the new cams I'm selling will come out in favor of the MSP pieces. We;ll see though once I get mine on the dyno. I'll be sure to post the power curve for everyone to see. These cams were designed to increase power from 300-6000rpms.

SR Motorsports sells the intake cam for like 200.00 plus freight (compared to my 165.00 shipped I think is what Ive got it listed for) Roddiumus, the cams do fit the 1.8L (they fit all FS motors). What cam are you producing?

Roddimus Prime April-7th-2004 10:49 PM

very nice.

I'm not producing anything. I'm only the re-seller/coordinator for Wagner Motorsports. Nick there has designed 4 sets of cam specs and worked with Crower to produce a high quality, drop-in performance cam that will work with the stock valve train and provide an actual performance gain from 300rpms to 6000rpms.

I have full details in the vendor section if you want to read more about them. Thanks for the info.

Protege5online April-7th-2004 10:52 PM

Oh, Ive been waiting on Wagner to get back to me on carrying their products. Been I think January since I was told they would get in touch with me.

Roddimus Prime April-7th-2004 11:04 PM

Yeah, I think as it is now that I will be handling most of their sales. They will still be selling from their website, but I've been given a little discount to help sell their products here on the forum.

Protege5online April-7th-2004 11:08 PM

I was contacting them to sell their product on Protege5 Online
