When did you get hooked?

At what age did you get hooked on the import scene & cars itself?

eggynatey Apr 20, 2003 09:18 AM

VWs are imports, so it's been awhile. But I've been into cars as long as I can remember. Hotwheels, bigwheels, anything with wheels!

UCSBgeek Apr 20, 2003 09:33 AM

I dunno, after not having a car for 2 years, I really seemed to enjoy driving, and saw lots of cool stuff on this site too, got a little excited, learned how fun it is to get your hands on this stuff :)

I guess that was a little bit before I was 20:cool:

hooked on cars, about as far back as I can remember... the "import scene", can't say I'm hooked on that at all.

I wasn't and still am not hooked on the import scene.
Car models, spoilers, body kits, etc are what I like at all.
I like cars in general and especially their engineering and technical aspects since I was very young.

I was probably 7 or 8 when I became interested in cars. "Helping" my dad fix the cars, etc ;) I wouldn't read school books but I would read car magazines ;) I was into muscle cars and hot rods then. We only ever had Japanese cars and I liked them, but I was never really "into" them. I didn't really get into the import scene until I was 14 and got my first RX-7 (cost 1k canadian.. project car). Ever since then I've been reading everything I can on Imports, and working on my Protege GT and various RX-7s over the last few years.

Yeah, I'm not for any 'import scene,' just really whatever kind of car that I like :)

Hehe I just burned the Knight Rider song onto a CD, it's fun to bump :D

Well, let's see. When I was 4, my dad bought a Triumph TR4 to restore. (he sold it before it was finished) By age 6, I could identify almost any car on the road. I built my first model car at 7 (Revell '65 Mustang) and my first RC model at 13 (Tamiya Grasshopper). My first car was a '79 VW Scirocco, silver, 4-speed, former autocross car. Since then I've had 20 cars, everything from a Dodge Colt Turbo to a '71 Buick Electra to a '77 Chevy Nova SS (sorry, itzkcatz, I sold it years ago). I had a Knight Rider bedspread and every Dukes of Hazzard toy they made.

So I guess the answer would be that I've been a car guy all my life, and I don't really care where they're built, or by whom.

As much as i like imports, theres something about the respect a muscle car gets with a blower sticking threw the hood
