What's The Deal With The MP3?

Ok guys, I just wanted to get this cleared up once and for all. To my understanding, there were 1500 2002 MP3's produced, 1000 Laser Blue, and 500 Yellow. Is this correct? If so, is this number in North America, USA, or Canada? All I ever drive down at the dealer are Blue ones. There seems to be quite a few here, but although I've seen a few pictures from time to time, never in person have I seen a Yellow MP3. Do they exist, and if so, how many are there?

I know it's a stupid question, but there's an asshole mechanic down at the dealer that claims Yellow MP3's don't exist. I hope He's not right, or I'm out $50! Pictures help too, because I have until Wednesday to prove it... I'm sure yellow MP3's were made.

Could someone please clear this up for me?

Info

I can clear up things for you, but not completely since my numbers may be incorrect. To my knowledge there were, 1500 Blue MP3s. in which 1000 were destined for the US and 500 for Canada. As for the 500 Yellow MP3s, all of them were destined for the US, none came to Canada, where you and I live.

Yellow MP3s exist but only in the US. Hope this helps.

Justin,

Could you email me some pics of your car? I just won $50 off that asshole mechanic!

I know they exist because I sat in one at my local dealer. They've had 4 blue ones and 2 yellow ones. Also, they are a 2001 model (mid year release).

Of note is the fact that Vivid Yellow (used on the 2001 MP3, 2002 Protege-5, and 2002 Internet-order only Miata is simply a renaming of the 1992 Miata colour of Sunburst Yellow, which is what the colour is still named for the 2002 Protege-5 in Canada - the paint code did not change)

Actually I'm not positive but I think this information is wrong. There were 1500 total MP3s made in North America. Of the 1500, 250 were shipped to Canada all in Blue(along with a few other minor differences such as us Canadians getting Protege floormats instead of the MP3 floormats). Antoher difference is that all Canada destined MP3s got the Kenwood Z828 stereo while only SOME of the MP3s in the US got the Z828 while the rest got the Z919 stereo.

Back to the numbers....1250 total were sent to the US. Of the 1500 MP3s, there were 1180 in Blue and 320 in Yellow. In the US you can get your actual production number of the 1500 total made for North America, and for a reason I'm not quite sure of, the Canadians can not get this production number.
