well my NEXT toy that has been a car that I have wanted for a long time is actually fairly affordable....its a replica of the 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder. Beck Engineering has been making them for about 25 years now, and have recently moved their factory to about a two hour drive from my home. I would hand build the motor myself, the car complete withOUT a motor is $14,500. The motor of MY design would run me about $6000......and just think....a 1250 pound car...with approx. 180 hp.....oh boy what fun I would be having!!!!!

heres a pic of the car.

That's a sweet little car. Didn't that one guy on 90210 drive one of those around? hehehe... If I had money, my toy would be a Cobra 427 replica. They're not that bad, about $30-35k for a nice 427. Maybe someday....

I wouldn't know about 90210, I never watched that show...

as for the cobra....you MIGHT be able to build one yourself for that price....I looked into one of those a few years back too....sure they advertise the KIT for like $15K....but that barely gets you started.....there are a TON of hidden costs in a kit....I have built them before....I speak from experience....you want to know how much it will cost....start adding everything up....get to where you THINK you have everything covered.....then hit the TIMES TWO or at least ONE AND A HALF TIMES button on the calculator....I promise you...it will come out to at least that. I have a neighbor that has a RED 427 Kit...not sure which engine he has in it though...but it certainly runs....its beautiful.

Well I'm sure they're hidden costs in just about anything you'd do... Here are some good examples though:

Okay...I was cornfuzzled in what you were saying...YES most definately...you can easily fine one already built, second hand for that price range....NO PROBLEM. and that first one would be a DOOZIE!! as it actually has the big block in it!

Another interesting statistic - might further the "gay boy" image of the Miata, but oh welll:

I remember reading that 75% of the AUTOMATIC tranny Miatas were sold to MEN. Now of course, some might buy them FOR women, but statistically speaking - much more MEN buy the auto (percentage wise) than women.

An around here, Mustangs are definitely "guy" cars. I see many more men driving them than women. Back in the mid-90s (before the newere body style) they were the ultimate "me too!" car. "Hey you've got a Mustang? Me Too!" I swear there was one on every block.

And Nuke - nice nice nice! Them Porsche speedsters are sweet, and the replicas are very cool. My dad used to have a 1952 MG-TD replica (made by FiberFab) - built on a VW engine and chassis. The car weighed 1200 lbs - so even with just 65 hp (super-bug motor - ooooohh) it still flew. And with the large sweep fenders on those cars, it almost literally flew if you got it up to 75 MPH - the wind got up under those front fenders, and with just over 1 ton, and no engine up front, suddenly the car would changing lanes by itself - scary.

just to be 100% correct...lol its not a speedster...its actually a SPYDER. the speedster were what the 365 "bathtubs" were refered too as....lol

in the event you don't know the history behind the 550 it was a car that the factory built with the intent for it to be put on a track and raced....this is the same car that James Dean was driving when he got killed...in fact he was on his way to race it.

the fact is...that he NEW cars have been really improved upon and actually handle and drive a lot better than the original...

OH SOME DAY!!! LOL

I don't know about where you live Hihoslva but down here it seems that more women are driving the Mustangs than men. My sister and cousin actually just bought two (which is sad because they are cheap ass V6's). I think men are going for the GT's and the Cobra. Because I damn sure would not be caught dead owning a V6.

hihoslva Oct 30, 2002 12:20 PM

I'm in NY - probably just a regional thing. Not that there are no women driving 'stangs, just there are a lot of men.

I wouldn't be caught dead in a V6 either. But I've never been impressed with Mustangs anyway. I mean, they sound awesome (V8's) and have balls, but they're not the best handling cars. And there is something about the seating that sucks - like you're riding way up high. The seating position is just not right for a "sports car", and no amount of tweaking the buttons can bring it down low enough to give you that feeling of being "part of the car". I always feel I'm riding on top of it, not in it - it's a trend that was in the 80s/90s boxy 'stangs, and wasn't changed for the newer generation. Strange - maybe that's just Mustang tho.

The Cobra with the IRS is frickin awesome. But the GT is pretty crappy. Pretty much a cheap old muscle car. I would buy a Cobra if I could afford it.
