Took the SRI still having problems.

All stock now, still will not idle after I fill it up and on occasion it will stall at a light. Today I left it running while I was filling it up and it started "chugging" while the cap was off, not quite stalling but not running well.

Strangest problem I have ever seen.

Have you reset the ECU, Ceej?

1. Unplug the neg. Battery cable
2. Pump the brakes a couple times to drain the caps
3. Wait about 15 minutes
4. Reconnect the battery, start the car and let it idle for around ten minutes

:)

make sure you're putting in the right octane.

buy a can of "BG's 44K" pour into the gas tank next time you're filling up. Also if you have over 30K miles and have yet to do so change your fuel filter.

Considering this happened right after you had installed the SRI, it sounds like you might have messed up your MAF, although I can't see your fuel level having any effect on that..... maybe it was just a coincidence. Have you double checked all the vacuum lines in the vicinity of the intake manifold? What has the dealer said, or are you still under warranty?

Ceej May-22nd-2004 09:58 PM

The dealer said it was the SRI and the fact that it was positioned so that the fan blew hot air right on the filter, I didn't buy it because of the whole gas thing.

So, I had the SRI taken off and it is STILL happening. I had the MAF checked, it is fine (it is a very simple device). Dunno what re-setting the ECU will do, it seems to be a vac problem of some kind but I had the lines checked.

To me it is some kind of vapor/ECU problem, the ECU should be able to deal with pressure changed in the tank but it does not seem that way. Why would the engine chug when the gas cap is off?

Like I said, strangest problem I have ever dealt with on a car and I have dealt with some strange ones.

By the way, the fule filter and plugs were changed that last time I took her to the dealer.

well I had a problem like that and there was a vaccuum line loose. I didn't reset the ecu after I fixed it and it still caused issues. so I reset it and it went away..... My SRI was close to the radiator without any issues. The MAF could be defective too without kicking a code amazingly.

Its not a fun thing at all... that's for sure.

As far as with the gas cap off, the fuel system pressurizes itself. By having the cap off, the system is unable to pressurize and drops fuel pressure.

I re-set the ECU this evening, time will tell if it fixes the problem.

F-ing computer in cars! ggggrrrrrrrr I remember when you fixed a car with a screwdriver and you adjusted the Carb.!

THEGOLDPRO May-24th-2004 07:27 PM

maybe clogged EGR valve, that could cause a vac leak.

Ceej May-27th-2004 08:20 AM

Well, re-set the ECU the other day. Still have the problem.

Going to bring it into the dealer when work is out for the summer, I will post what they find to help people with this problem in the future.

dealer hasn't bent you over yet?? wait to see if you need some new parts.....see what they say/do!

Ceej June-1st-2004 08:23 PM

They seem very cool at my dealer, maybe they don't like you?

Roddimus Prime June-1st-2004 08:54 PM
