such an idiot

i'm a retard. well i got some rhino ramps for oil changes and i use them for the first time. i placed them at the front wheels of the car and drove up slowly, but i accelerated too fast near to top of the ramp and i completely fell off the high end. the sides of the car landed on the ramps and they are totally messed up at the bumps that would have stopped me in the first place. would you recommend using them still? do you think the store would take the return and exchange?

to add insult to injury, when i go to loosen the drain plug for the oil, i couldnt do it for the life of me. its like the plug was welded back in place. the drain plug on my protege was easily loosened on the first turn, whats up with this altima? what do you do when the drain plug is on so tight?:(

Who changed your oil last time?

meGrimlock November-30th-2003 08:06 PM

i used to have an 84 pontiac before the protege, and the clearance was high enough for me to get under, drain, replace the filter, and be on my way. the protege is much lower to the ground, plus my driveway and street i live on are on a steep hill, so i've always brought it to a local shop for changes. i figured if i got some ramps i could save myself $20 each oil change if i did it myself. the protege oil changes are easy enough, this is my sister's 97 altima that i wanted to work on. she has always brought it to the same local shop for her oil changes.

Well, it won't hurt to try to exchange them. Not sure if it will work though, but I'd still try it. Good luck.

Next time get someone to be there to tell you how much farther you have to go before you go off the ramps. :)

ratchet, and a big long pipe to fit over the end of it. leverage buddy.. leverage.

Redfyre January-27th-2004 04:06 AM

Try tapping the end of the rachet with a hammer.

this might be too obvious, but are you turning the drain plug the correct direction?

meGrimlock January-27th-2004 07:43 PM

thanks

yea, i've tried both directions ^_^ cuz knowing me...

another thought here...the plug might have been cross threaded back into the oil pan. if that 's the case, eitherthe oil pan or the plug will lose. you may want to check really close before you remove it. once you remove it, you may need a replacement part handy.
