staying in the mazda crowd or leaving ,, often confusing

It's funny because sometimes I never really know what to do ... I am working on my current turbo project with the protege and blahblahblah ,... But I know in about a year or so I am gonna want to move on to a newer ride..
I have basically been looking at the Protege 5 , MP3 , and Mspeed but that is only in the mazda family . I have been looking outside the mazda house at the acura cl type S .. RSX type S , Audi A4 , VW Jetta 1.8T , WRX , Eclipse Turbo... and a few other cars ...

My thing though is that the mazda crowd that I have come to know weather on protegemp3.com or protegeclub.com or whatever have been pretty cool guys ever since I started out in this Protege game in late 97 or early 98 .. I like the cars that mazda builds but I just feal like they lack somethings . like good hp. not minding the fact that the Mspeed has decent power , but still I would love to have more power out the box.
I know the other cars like the A4 1.8T WRX etc.. come with way more power than our cars ,.
It's just kinda hard to figure out...

Out of the cars you listed, I would take the Acura CL Type-S over any Mazda. That's one of my favorite cars out there at the moment.:)

If your only concern is that Mazda lacks in power, then you should not have any problems once your turbo project is complete;)

Funky Buddha Apr 23, 2003 08:53 PM

CL type S, 6 speed. That would be a pimpin ride.

5SpeedP5 Apr 23, 2003 10:19 PM

i dont blame you bruce, trust me, i know the feeling. I bought my p5 and loved it to death, but i can see it lacking alot in all my areas. Because of this i started lookin around for a second car... now even that is starting to not be convienient.

but ive been looking again for a convienint, reliable car with potential... thats hard for me especially considering i like cars that arent the norm....

Bruce95fmla Apr 23, 2003 10:46 PM

exactly , I know what you mean 5speed. I like the cl- types , because it just plain rocks .. I really don't care much about the weight of the car , the compression of the pistons or whatever, i just basically want my next car to be a car that fits my style. When I get the turbo project on the way and going I intend to enjoy it oh yeah definetly .. and one of the main reasons why I am doing it aside from pleasing my need for a more powerful and balanced car , is also to show people that have a 2nd gen or whatever protege , that such mods to your car can be done,.. I just want to show everyone just how easy it is to drop another motor in there ( aside from gtx) ....
But I definetly want a nicer car next time though ....
Something that makes me feal comfortable ...
I just hope people can relate ...

BTW the CL Type S is my favorite out of the bunch I listed

I'd like to get the 6 speed , but damn it ,.. when your cruising with a girl and you got your hand in her lap and then you have to take it out to shift .... DAMN that makes me upset ,,, spoils the whole moment ... but the 6 speed is sweet though
lol
:D

islandpro Apr 23, 2003 11:26 PM

just make her shift then you never have to move your hand but down.:D

islandpro Apr 23, 2003 11:29 PM

oh yeah, me i like the a4 1.8T Q

Bruce95fmla Apr 23, 2003 11:47 PM

yeah that audi 1.8T is a sweet car, plus the fact it's a Audi ...
I mean a VW 1.8T is nice , but it's a vw
A audi 1.8T is an AUDI (say it loud)
I think the audi has more style and carisma ,..
I like a car to have a sex appeal look to it ..
A car that makes a women go ummm ....
I like my car to say , "Stop playing Bitch get in"

and FYI, Mazdaspeed in Japan already has performance/appearance upgrades for the RX-8 for sale.

personally, i think a great chassis is more important than a great engine... and Mazda has great chassis engineering :D

I have an interesting situation unfolding for me since I just went into real estate as an associate salesperson. When I become a full consultant (sometime within the next year maybe) for my company, it's required that I have a vehicle with 4-doors, medium to large size, 4-years old or newer. The Pro won't cut it, but that's actually cool. I can get a new car and plan on keeping the Pro as my "toy"! That way I can do an engine swap and not worry about it being my daily driver. I've put so much money into the Pro that it's not worth selling it anyway. Besides, it's almost prime now, except for a GTX or KLZE swap.

As far as what I would buy? Well, I like Mazda. We also have an MPV van - hey what I can I say ... we've got two rugrats; it's her car though! After driving Honda's for a number of years it's safe to say I won't be going back to them. Mazda's rep for sporty handling cars appeals to me. I like the 6 alot, but I want to wait and see the hatchback and the awd turbo version. While I love the RX-8, it's out of the question becauase I need a larger car with good back seat space that's easy for clients to get in and out. The Audi A4 is definitely nice. I've always been a Saab fan too after owning a 900 Turbo for 7 years. The new 9-3 Vector is really sweet!

ever considered leasing a bling bling entry-lux car to shuttle your clients in comfort? ;)

G35 sedan or (gasp!) ES300 comes to mind :)

beachnut Apr 24, 2003 12:17 PM

Yep, how could forget to mention the awesome G35 ... this biz loves blingage! :D I'm not really into the ES300, it's too Camry-ish for my likes.

I think ever since the RX7 left the american market, mazda has been going downhill. Only in the past 2 years have they been showing some promise in their future offerings.

But sorry, If I was going to buy a sport-wagon, I would not choose the Protege5. If they had a MSP turbo setup on it, I would however, but the stock 2.0 engine dyno's at about 100whp which doesn't cut it in todays market.

As for other mazda offerings...well look at the Miata. In stock form, it runs a low 16 second 1/4 mile. What the hell is that about? It is supposed to be a sports car and its just as fast as most economy cars are today (the new corollas run 16.0 1/4 mile times!).

Mazda sure as hell can build a chassis and make a car handle, but COME ON!! PUT SOME F**KING POWER IN YOUR CARS!! That is the only way to stay competitive in the car market today and only recently has mazda realized it.

What mazda needs to do:

Up the power on the 6 to about 240-260 hp on the V6 model. The 4 banger powerplant seems to be fine for now. The 6 is already showing horrible sales in the showroom. It simply isn't competitive in its current form.

The mazda 3 already is coming with the 2.3...which might be a good thing, but I have my doubts. Plus I think the car looks fugly.

Bring the 121 Demio over here with the 1.6 DOHC engine. Runs a high 15 stock and looks pretty sweet. With the intro of the Mini, I have a feeling the sub-compact car market will once again pick up like it did back in the 80's, early 90's.

Give the miata a turbo out of the factory....lots of people buy a turbo kit anyways, so why not make it factory equipment?

And for the record:

If I had the money, I would definitely buy the MSP. I think it is an excellent value for the money. Sure the SRT4 has gobs of power, but why the f**k would I need to run 13's stock? I'd rather have a car that outhandles a type-R, and is reasonably fast and has the proven reliability that mazda's have.

I think the new RX8 is badass. My only gripe is the front bumper. It is WAY too mild compared to the rest of the car. I love the way the mazdaspeed kit looks and hope that mazda offers some kind of aero-kit as an option. For some reason, I have a feeling this car will not sell. I hope it does, and hopefully Mazda will sell the new RX7 here if it doesn't. Lets hope it makes Mazda some money!

Now that I'm done griping about Mazda, I'd just like to say that I'm glad that they are turning their focus around and towards road-racing and autosports. I just feel they need to design a car that will BLOW AWAY the competition and will become a money maker. The 6, and RX8 don't seem very promising profit makers for Mazda. Lets hope the new 3 is AWESOME when it comes out gets rave reviews from everyone. It has the potential to, lets hope it does!

But guys , I agree with Wil ... as much as I would like to buy a p5 , I don't think I would , because I know the first thing that I would do is turbo the car..I think after the turbo project that I am doing , I really won't want to step down to a car with 140 hp .. especially since my aim is a minum of 190 hp to the wheels ..
But overall I want to be comfortable, the average grocery getter hp has gone up .. people no longer want a budget car after certain age for their main car... keep in my that I will have a second car though , so there won't be many miles going on which ever other car that I am going to purchase...

I also think that the mazda 6 does not have what it takes as far as styling goes , the car does not make me say wow ... and yes there are kits and body parts for it ,, but go to corksports site and see how much that crap costs.. who the hell wants to go through that .... also the car only looks good in certain colors and then we have to wonder about the resale value... mazda don't have the best resale value as compared to say a Honda/Acura ... I know that if you look on the net right now at used car prices , you will see the same cars that many p5 guys spent 20k for going for like 10k , and these are like 2001's and what not ...

bottom line the only car that mazda has that I am fealing is the rx-8 and the mazdaspeed protege .MP3 also(good concept and platform .....
that's it

And don't bring up a minivan , cause I am not buying a mpv or any other minivan ... lol

Bruce
