A little background, since meeting my gf we have been together every Valentine's Day (very difficult due to my job which makes it that much more special). We were planning on a nice night together away from all kids at a local bed and breakfast. That was all dashed today when I got a call about a job I am angling for on some new LNG ships. The company wants their crew to have certain certificates, and there are a couple of classes starting next week. I am pretty much stuck doing them now as I have to go back to work in a month, and if I don't take the classes now it will put me further down the list for getting on these new ships. Of course this is a bone of contention, but there is nothing I can do. Now I just have to figure out what to do in order to somewhat dig myself out of this hole.

For all those who are in a relationship (and can empathize), my gf said what were they thinking scheduling a class the week of Valentine's Day? And that if women ran things that they would account for this sort of stuff and the world would be a better place. Hard to argue with, even if I were dumb enough to try!

valentines day is a made up holiday anyway. Just tell her you'll take her out on a REAL special day when you get back.

yeah, its a "hallmark" holiday.

just to get you to spend a bunch of money on flowers, candy, jewelery, etc.

The day is special for us in its own way. I was able to use some frequent flier miles to bring her down for the day, she's here with me now and all is right with the world.

If by "the world" you mean "her box" then you're the man!!

Just tell her hallmark could have pick any day of the year that wasnt already taken. . . how is it your fault they picked feb. 14
