+1

As a sysadmin, I really, really hope database backups are made regularly and that the entire general section (where most discussion occured) isn't *poof* gone.

It would be really nice and comforting for the new owners to come and at least say something.. at least acknowledge that there's an issue and that they're working on it.

Where's Boostd7 in all of this anyways? I thought he was still managing it after the sale or something.

_Kansei_ September-5th-2007 06:30 PM

I thought so too but he seems to be MIA.. probably busy with real life and such :)

--I just signed on to AIM and he was online so I sent him a message letting him know what is going on in case he hasn't been able to get on the site recently. He didn't seem to actually be there but hopefully he gets the message.

I miss 'General' :(

Weird how the server seems more stable now, but we're still missing a big chunk.

_Kansei_ September-6th-2007 06:54 PM

Yeah it's kinda a major part of the place. Can an admin maybe make a temporary new general forum and then just merge posts in when the backup of the old one is restored?

Wow, there is a lot of stuff missing. I just went to update the 'what have you done to...' thread, and it's gone!

So, um, yeah...just installed the NSN wheel spacers and ARP studs, nice little mod.
Gives the car a bit more of an agressive stance. Hopefully this weekend I'll get my new front air dam and side skirts installed, and then I'll post up a pic or two...

Oh, and I busted a side motor mount :(

luckily for you, Josh had the foresight to create a 'What have you done to your 3rd gen while the general discussion forum disappeared?' thread to tide us over.

it hurts postwhores like me though because it's in the 'test' forum so it doesn't count.

maybe I should make one in the main tech forum instead :) "what have you done to your 3rd gen while the general discussion forum disappeared but didn't want to post about in the other thread because you want to bloat your post count??" lol

I've also talked with the wife about opening a small shop here near my house...we can buy this small 2 bay building a mile down the street from me and turn it into either my personal garage or a side business if I'd like. I'm personally holding out for my own shop until after we move to ATL.

by ATL, you mean Athens.... right?

Hey guys, I do have to take full responsibility for the problems ... I just dropped the ball. I had family in over the holiday weekend, and just didn't pay attention.

The server busy problems are fixed now, one of our webservers in the load-balanced cluster was flaking out for a lot of reasons. And the problem with the General section disappearing, well that's just weird. Somehow all the permissions on it were set as 'deny access to all usergroups' ... that's fixed now too.

As far as the influence of Internet Brands buying the site, it'll be nothing but good. They have infinitely more resources than I do, and will have 24/7 support for the site. To them all that matters is return on investment, and you only get that by making the site better which keeps the people we have and gets new visitors. We're hoping to make the switch to them hosting the sites within a few weeks, but it's a big undertaking.

Hooray for Ryan coming in and giving us some reassurance. Thanks mate!!

No problem, I'm not going anywhere ... even though someone else owns the site, I plan on being here for years to come.

Dude, you should change up your signature to reflect the scooter, rather than the Audi :p
