i need help ASAP! i need a topic for my senior exit paper, basically an essay of how one thing is better than another, 6-10 pages long. i cant think of anything to do it on, the only thing i want to do is engines. rotary vs piston? helllllllp! :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused:

How about how Proteges are better than Civics, lol, I think there's a 6-10 page thread about this somewhere recently...

Sounds like a persuasive essay type of thing. Write about what you know and if that means engines, then do it! Make sure that you back up your opinions with solid facts too. Oh, and don't forget to reference your sources and use parenthetical citations for any words that are not your own.

i know a lot about engines (or so i believe), but the problem is that its a persuasion (sp?) essay... as in engines are better than what, or comparings engines to something else...

you should do a paper on why hybrid technology isn't worth the price in terms of the consumer's pocketbook, but is definitely worth the price in lowering greenhouse gases.

Phantom's got the right idea. As I had to do my senior project last year, I feel your pain. Frankly speaking, I recently had to do an essay similar to this in my first college english class. The biggest key to doing well on a paper like this is to make sure you have an abundance of information available for research. Trust me when I say that there are many topics that would seem to have a lot of info on them... but don't. The best way to get an 'A' is to let your research do the talking for you. This not only keeps your bias and opinions out of it (which the teachers prefer you keep out of a persuasion essay), but it makes the paper easier to write AND provides a clear and definate solution. You've probably hear all of this many times before, so I'm gonna stop my usless rambling and go to bed... problem is, i need a topic sentence! hybrid cars, trucks, SUVs, City Buses, Diesel (¿sp?) cars and even transmissions are being hybridnated! aaah all the information!

*INFORMATION OVERLOAD*

your topic sentence:

the premium price of hydrid vehicles is not worth the minimal lowering of NOx gases in the atmosphere from the other 99% of the vehicles on the road.

then you go and look into how many pounds of NOx a car puts out a year, how many pounds of CO a car puts out per year, then compare them with those figures from a hybrid. then you take the number of hybrids on the road today, multiply it by the number of hybrids that are going to come to market, then voila! you have your answer.

you can also look into the inflated numbers in terms of mpg on the hybrids. those cars are maxed out in terms of mpg on the window sticker. most normal drivers do not see anything close to those figures.

on the economic standpoint, you can talk about how if everyone is going to get a hybrid car, then the national economy will take a shit because of the lack of money going into the oil industry. if everyone in the US were to buy 30% less gas, oil company stocks will plummet, the government will lose those lobbyists, and kids' college funds will dwindle.

if you want to be for the hybrids, i can come up with that argument too.

It's rather something that as good as the hybrids are toted as, that a early 90s Civic (for example use only) and late 90s Jetta TDIs got killer gas mileage (like 50 mpg on the road for the Jettas and 45 or so for Civic HXs) and those cars are cheap now that they're used. I guess you could use this for a cost effective argument. That the money you could save by buying a 94 Civic HX coupe 5spd or whatever for $4500 (instead of $20+k for the new hot demand hybrid Priuses) could go toward gas and dog cheap maintainence and gas (you have $15k at least to spend on something incredibly reliable. You win!)
