Selling hatch

Well, I got an offer today that I couldn't refuse. A gentlemen in town who owns and works on Vettes/Camaros, and is very well known for it offered me $12k for my hatch. He plans on buying it for his 15 year old son who is turning 16 in a month or so. I told him that I would rather see it raced only rather than daily driven. The guy said he was gonna teach him how to drive it responsibly, but I doubt it  I know how I was when I was 16 and I bet this hatch will be totalled a week after his son gets his hands on it. I told him I would "think" on the $12k, and he said the highest he would go is $15k. I think I am gonna get the full $15k out of it, I mean it runs 9.5's and thats without NOS. Looks like I won't be smoking Vettes,Camaros,Bikes, etc anymore :( I found a 93 RX7 Turbo for $14,500. I think I might jump on that. who knows.

Is that a civic hatch? I thought you had an accord?? :dunno:

That $15k would be a nice down payment on that WRX of yours :D

He has both. Travis that could get a 00 2.5 RS. But a rex wouldnt be bad.

thats too bad to hear it go travis, that car was a beauty in my eyes... heck it woulda been sweeter with that Si blue on it too... oh well

Go for that RX7 baby! :D

That kid may be dead in a few months if he drives a 9.5 second car as his first vehicle. That kind of power should only be driven by someone with experience and maturity. I can see it now, he's bragging to all his friends about his smoking fast Civic and giving them all rides showing off the accel at WOT, eventually something goes wrong and at those speeds you're toast. A light little Civic would basically disintegrate at such fast speeds.

My father is a firefighter and has seen some horrible things when pulling bodies out of cars.

I know you want to sell it for a great $15K but consider that or tell the father what 16 year olds are actually like.

i totally agree with that, even me being a mature "young" driver, i have seen what kids do with their cars... its not funny how easily that kind of power could and probably would kill someone.... there are kids at my school driving cars that will run 12s in their cars, but we are talking about people that started out with stock cars and built them up over time, so they know what it could and will do.... that and i have spent a good share of time at the track with these people, they know how to drive it. but an un-experienced 16 yearold, just given that kind of power out of the blue, is like giving him a shot gun and saying shoot it at people at random...

some parents are just stupid, we arent calling you stupid travis....

i just dont understand why people buy their kids these nice ass cars that are too fast for the young kid.... beemers, porsches, lexus.... then they go wreck their $40k cars and go crying to their parents....

blah blah blah, my rant isnt over, but i'll stop

With a car that does 9.5 in the 1/4, you wouldn't even be able to see things properly, much less avoid them. When you are flying down the entire lenght of a block in a couple seconds it's tough to react to anything in time.

I wouldn't be surprised if the kid added a "NAWS" kit to make it even faster. Who wants a 9.5 second car when it can be an 8.5 or 9.0 second car?<sarcasim>

Damn, I've watch videos of cars going that fast and it was insane how they took off. I'd be afraid to drive that on a track much less any street.

Yes I agree it is a truley dangerous car, especially considering it will be daily driven by a 16 year old! I used it as my "weekend warrior" so to say. I dunno what to do, I need the money, but I would rather not kill somebody. I will talk to the guy about it, I might pull the Turbo and drop price on car, I dunno.

You could probably put it on ebay and get a pretty good penny for it :) Actually, pulling the turbo wouldn't be a bad idea because you could easily sell that to someone too.

Travis June-27th-2002 12:53 PM

Yup, I have thought about that.

Invincibleredp5 June-27th-2002 01:36 PM

who gets a 16 year old a 9.5 sec car to learn on??? does he know its that fast?? well i had a old escort :( which would probably run 19's on a 1/8 if it was running.

anyways, i dont mean to attack your concionce? (sp?? lol) but that would be a death trap not just for him but any 1 living around u could be a victm even u.

well, this guy swears hes gonna teach him to drive it right, I mean he does have a lot of FAST cars and drives them right, maybe his son will take after him? a 9.5 1/4 mile car is not meant to be driven by a new driver, I need the money however to help out with school, So I think I might just pull Turbo and sell it for less to him.

rodslinger June-27th-2002 02:22 PM

What kind of car is this?

Travis June-27th-2002 02:39 PM

Just to clear things up,
I have a 1993 Honda Accord coupe with a JDM 2.2L motor (that is going to be painted Si Blue soon)
and I have my 1993 Honda Civic Hatchback with a whole buttload of mods (too many to list) that runs 9.50's in the 1/4 mile at best. hehe, didn't mean to confuse anybody.
