re: People using their signals incorrectly?

My girlfriend and I had a quiet night last night. We both had a busy week and pretty much laid low. We had decided to go to dairy queen to get some blizzard and when we were traveling down rt- 9 (two way road), around 9:30’ish and there was a row of traffic stopped on the left hand side of the road, with the first car having his right hand turn signal on.

I crept towards the right hand edge of the lane to check the situation out and was like WTF is going on with this idiot? There were two cars in front of myself, and the man in front doing absolutely nothing. I did not want to pass them on the right, incase the man in front made a right hand turn like his directional was signaling. Did not want to get hit….

Anyway, the man eventually made a left hand turn with his right signal on. I was like ass##le and my girlfriend was like I see that all the time……..I was like, HUH? “I have been driving for almost 10 years and can’t remember once seeing this happen.”

She replied, “I see this all the time, especially on the highway.”
“Maybe if the driver forgot to turn off their signal after making a lane change because sometime the signals don’t turn off unless you turn the wheel a certain percent.”

We had a calm argument for like 10 minutes regarding this incident.

I want to know how many times you guys/gals have seen things like this happen?

I think my girlfriend is crazy when she sees this all the time when I have never seen it except for those situations on the highway………

Thanks…….

The problem in Florida is that nobody uses their turn signal for anything, not even cops. So no, I've never seen that ;) .

semtex May 31, 2003 10:07 AM

ive seen it once on the highway, but for like on the main drag i see them pull out and leave their signal going while driving down the road, that makes me very disgruntled:mad: like can they hear that tick tick tick????? damm idoits!!

funkdaddysmack May 31, 2003 10:30 AM

I don't think I've ever seen that. Like cjb said, many people don't use their turn signals, I would say especially cops on the highway. It really, really bothers me. I use my turn signals ALL the time.

Protege52003 May 31, 2003 12:47 PM

I know what you guys mean. People up here in mass rarely use their signals. I think it would make for fewer accidents each year not to mention being respectful to other drivers and people on the roads. What was everyone taught when learning how to drive? Use your directionals to signal your moves……….

I hate it when people forget and leave 'em on. Some of the GM cars actually start dinging a bell after a while to remind you to turn them off. More cars should do that.

The one that really bugs me is when people don't signal lane changes, especially if they cut in really close in front of you. You could at least WARN me before you cut me off.

It's just lazy, sloppy behavior, like everything else.

leungwingkei May 31, 2003 11:34 PM

I see people forgetting to turn off their signals all the time. They can continue to drive like that for 5 minutes. It's either they inconsiderate or too retarded to notice the ticking.

yellowdragon May 31, 2003 11:55 PM

I'd say about 60% of the drivers here don't use their signals... But the ones I hate the most are those who want to change to your driving lane and finish the maneuver after barely 2 blinks of their turn signal...

you guys have nothing better to talk about then trying to figure out how many times you seen a person not use a blinker correctly? you guys should go out more :D actually, maybe their blinker fluid ran out thats why the signals were all wrong.

pro00 Jun 1, 2003 10:25 AM

On the Highway, no body knows what is a turn signal
on the city, most people understand what it is for

but for that certain case, no I never seen anything like that
and if so, I would have probably honked the horn to see what is up, and tell him to change his blinker light

I ALWAYS use my siganl, better safe than sorry!

zerocover Jun 1, 2003 10:56 AM

Personaly I always use my signals correctly I might add.

There are some real idiots around here in New Jersey. What winds up happing around here alot is people forget to turn off there signals. This is dangerous because they'll have a left turn signal on and be comming at me so I would figure that its ok to turn left. I realize not to ever take what the signals are saying for granted. Because 75% of the time they just keep going strait.

Here in Texas...Houston in particular....I sometimes believe that turn signals are an OPTION you can get on your car and NO ONE DOES!! that or they just rip the turn signal stalk off the colum and pitch it out the window as they drive off the new car lot.....its a seldom used accessory in cars here. and on the highway....IF You do ever see them blinking....its because they are on and its what I tell my kids..." LOOK, THAT GUY IS GOING AROUND THE WORLD TO THE LEFT/RIGHT" ....that has got to be it casue the damn thing has been flashing for the last frickin 20 MILES!!!!

as for the clicking noise? now...if it were someone that really likes to chank his tunes? well okay....but what about the flashing light on the dash....

this is all so irritating going down the road...as you REALLY don't know what the clown in the car is going to do.....if I had my way.....there would be an alarm in EVERY car that would start blowing the horn and flashing on and off EVERY light in the car if your car is in motion and the flashers stay on for more than 30 seconds to ONE minute.....I think that would take care of it....

of course.....you could also hook up a SELF-CANCELING relay to just turn them off under the same circumstances as above....that is how the blinkers on my Harley are.

TheMAN Jun 1, 2003 01:33 PM

you're talking about the same people who drove with their e-brake on... ;)
or
screwed up the motor because they didn't pay attention to the temperature gauge
or
ran out of gas because they didn't pay attention to the gas gauge or glowing gas light
or
blew the motor because they didn't see the little oil light

those idiotic things does *not* exclude protege drivers
