Racing Tips

I'm not a big time racer or anything like that but I know some of you are. I was just wondering if you guys had any racing tips, what RPM to dump the clutch to get a good start in wet/dry conditions w/o spinning the tires? How far do you wind out the engine before shifting to the next gear? Anything is appriciated.

damn, I just asked the same question in General........ I'm interested too at what point to shift in each gear for the 2.0 engine

I'm not expert racer either, but here's my take....
the only way to know for absolute certain, is to dyno the car to see the curve, from there, you will know where to shift to stay in the powerband. It's not the peak HP your looking for as a shift point, but the torque...you wanna shift and stay in the torque peak, as that leads right into the HP peak.

I'm not Mr. Expert here but in my case I used to dump it out around 3000 rpms and then ran it all the way to about 6.5 to 7 or as close as I can to redline..... That was on my old civic... Got stuck with an auto for the P5 =( but I guess you could somewhat interpret that the same way for the P5 just shift a lil earlier since redline is lower in the P5..... Get a Shift Tach it'll help ya out.... That was my 2 cents for the day =P

other option for shift point... find a nice road, put the car into a higher gear (3rd maybe) , floor it and when you get to the point when your not making anymore power, but still reving higher that would be your shift point. Shift at the RPM. JUST before you stop making power. I find on my P5 I'm shifting @ about 600RPM before redline. After that point its just not making power. I also short shift 1st. a bit, gets me into a speed gear a little quicker.

Cheers

sorry my error, I was looking at a dyno of a p5 and it is still making power to 6500. Looked at my car, I shift about 6300-6400.
