Check out the concept design for the new g8. Look familiar?

Eh, I dunno, it's not awful. Isn't the G8 the RWD platform they are using for the Holden in Aussieland?
'Cuz being the old guy that I am, I still have fond memories of owning and driving RWD V8's...

hehe...
and those rims look very similar to the new nissan SE-R's

Oh I have no problem with it, but for the Grand Prix replacement?
I just think it:
1) doesn't look like a pontiac, nevermind a grand prix
2) looks like a boxy little import, and with those headlights + that hood scoop, very similar to the Evo.

350+ ponies to the rear wheels sounds like lots of fun, but I don't like their design choices.

It is based on a Holden, and looks very similar to it save for the front and rear end changes. It is not a small car by any means, but I don't believe it to be full size. GM/Pontiac want to get back to RWD, so this is an initially quick way to do it, much like the GTO was, in spite of not being able to live up to its name (GM's fault, but still a great car). So, as a replacement for the GP, I say good for Pontiac. It can't really look like the GP because of FWD vs RWD...to say the least. Would you want some of those odd proportions from the GP onto the G8. Ya, no thanks.

I say the car looks sweet. It's not pushing design necessarily, but it's clean, honest, straightforward, and strong looking. It looks legit, and dang I'd take one with a V8 and a 6 spd stick (will be available). kargoboy, I may not be as old as you (don't know if you are being sarcastic or what, but I'll take you at your word), but I'm a big fan of RWD V8 engined cars. Nothing like torque NOW.

If you want to play the copy-cat game, the new TL Type-S rims look similar to the Altima SE-R rims. The new 2008/9 Accord sedans have a lot of current 5 series in them...I don't find the Evo and G8 that similar, especially proportion-wise. Anyways....

the holden (monaro) if thats the one your talkin about is the pontiac GTO twin not the g6/8 but if its another model your talkin about im wrong.....but overall i do like it...but the evo is one of my dream cars lol

Holden makes pretty sick cars from what I saw during my trip down under, but it doesn't seem to be a very reliable manufacturer. From what I heard their cars have a lot of problems ..

cornercarve98 July-7th-2007 02:23 PM

sorry i didn't clarify my mental switches there. holden (as well as the vauxhaul or however you spell it) monaro = pontiac gto chassis and much sheetmetal-wise. the g8 is based heavily on the holden commodore sedan. the pontiac g6 is some fwd car based on some gm multi-companty fwd platform.

holden does make some ridiculously cool/fast cars...i don't know if was the monaro hs-v or something a few years ago, but it had i think a 7.0l (427 cubic inches!) v8 and was pretty raced up--and really fast. but we got the gto with 350 hp then 400. ha, not shabby at all but no nuts potentially "the judge" version based off that. guess we'll just have to take it to lingenfelter.

should be noted pontiac's kidneys have been a staple on its front-end design for some time. mitsu should be made fun of for mangling the lancer's grille. and poor pontiac's not the only one using non-functional hood scoops

cornercarve98 July-14th-2007 02:39 AM

slightly ot, but...i never understood/understand why automakers do fake hood and vent scoops. "yes, we wanted to create more drag and reduce mileage." sounds fantastic...

J-Protege July-14th-2007 11:54 AM

Ford has been big on fake scoops for the mustang lately. Previous gen had them, then they had a break, but now current gen stangs are coming back with them.

Forget the drag/mileage issue, why would you want a fake/ricey looking part on a $30,000 car?

cornercarve98 July-15th-2007 12:53 AM

very true.
