Out of curiosity...

(MP5) What the hell are our cars??? Why I ask is because I discussed this with someone at work and I really had no idea.

CanadaFX Sep 13, 2002 06:09 PM

sport wagon.. ?

Sir Nuke Sep 13, 2002 06:35 PM

we have gotten into this debate here many times...some say its a wagon...some a hatch....the truth be known....its both.

if you go and search out automotive dictionaries and find the definitions for both.....you will find that our cars fit into BOTH catagories....so call it what you like....I personally prefer Sport Wagon.

Mazda considers it a 4-door hatchback

I consider it a cool car

Unfortunately, I agree with ALL of you, but I agree mostly with FOXY!;)

I've said this before but here goes. Only in North America would this car be car a wagon/sport wagon. The Protege5 is 4" shorter than the sedan. name me one wagan that is shorter than the sedana than it's based on? People in the U.S & Canada have a thing for miss labeling cars. Like calling a coupe a sports car, a sedan a coupe, a hatchback a wagon. So please stop calling the civic 2 door, cavlier 2 door, Accord 2 door, sports cars. Thier not thier coupes or with the Accord you might say it's a two door sedan. yes you can have a two door sedan.

Now here is the question for every one: What is an Aston Martin DB7?

I'll Answer on Monday.

Hint a Video game has this name. :)

das right.

actually, i voted "station wagon" cause i know that pisses some ppl off on this board. :p

i just refer to it as a p5. no one even bothers to ask what type of car it is cause they're usually stuck on "wow."

In my own definition, a HatchBack has a smallish cargo area, and there is almost always a cargo cover that goes up with the hatch door - just like our P5s.

A station wagon (to me) is more like a car-based SUV, kinda. More cargo room, and the car is not shaped the correct way to allow a cover over the cargo area that moves with the hatch door.

Our car is a hatchback - anyone who mistakes it for a station wagon is a bit askew.

But I do like the "sport wagon" term. Just not STATION wagon - makes me think of the Brady Bunch or the Family Truckster from Lampoon's Vacation.

IMHO in order to be considered a "wagon" the car must have enough room in the back to be able to have a reverse 3rd row seat (ya know...one that faces ya towards the rear). For instance, the 91-96 Escort Wagons, ARE true wagons, they have bigger glass panels behind the rear doors, unlike the Pro5. PLus the pro5 isn't as tall as any other wagon on the market.

I consider it a hatchback b/c thats what it f***in is!! I mean shit, if it is considered a "wagon" then my festiva is a 2 door wagon right? and the honda civic hatchbacks need to be renamed wagons too.....

Hmmmm, I am kinda leaning hatchback way now...
