New Eclipse

A Disgrace

Nothing will replace the 1st gen and 2nd gen monsters...sure 236 horses w/a 6spd tranny would be nice...but damn...the sleek lined 95-99...now that was a sexy car.
Regards,

Yup....Mitsu has really let me down...the Evo has been the best thing as of late from their camp.

I saw it in Detroit at the North American International Auto Show. I really liked the car's lines, interior, loved the colors, and the price was reasonable. Plus anything's better than this previous generation and its ugly gas cap doors and lack of personality.

I can at least agree w/you on that. The 3rd gen totally sucked ass!!!

I like it, looks smooth. But to each his own.

blah... i agree 350z ripoff. i can't wait to get rid of my g/f's 3rd gen. it's proving to be quite difficult seeing as it's a p.o.s. and she owes a lot more than its worth.

Hell now days they're all rip off of something. The thing to look for to see which is better it HP to lbs! The 350 is to heavy. So if this thing is around 2500 it should be quick. The one bad thing is that Mitzu company sucks and if they even think your racing in it the kill your warrinty.

Very 350z-ish. I kinda like the design. But Mitsu build quality is awful compared to all of the other Japanese manufactureres.

I saw it at the chicago auto show and for a moment i thought i was at the nissan exhibit!

Don't have to tell me twice.

Looks decent, its something different and I respect them for taking a chance and not being like other whimpy companys and conforming to the normal car look. I always respect companies or people who take chance and I think this will work out well for them. I didnt look at specs but I wouldnt be suprised if it sold really well to young kids. And the third Gen Eclipse BOMBED.

I saw this car at the Detroit show this year...
They tried to make it look like the first and second gen Eclipse, with a rounded rump and plenty of curves. The first gen cars looked so sweet, because the curves came off looking aggressive, and the car was not that big. The latest Eclipse looks like it melted in the oven... it is a bulbuous look that is better suited to a Solara or Monte Carlo. This latest fat ass Eclipse is sized like a luxo-coupe too. Not like the tight fitting, irresistably sexy sports car it once was. And, no manic turbo I4 engines or AWD in sight. If you want a true DSM, they are still out there.

I was fortunate to see it at this year's LA Auto Show. The look is nice, and it's instantly recognized as an attempt to go back to the 2nd gen look because that worked.
The 1st gens are cool and have that early 90s Japanese car look.
I love the 2nd gens. All the lines (esp the top window line that forms part of the hatch opening) still make it a looker.
I have no idea what Mitsu was thinking on the 3rd gens. Why such a radical and terrible departure from a winning formula? The top half looked all right, but the geometric lower (with the Pontiac ribs!) was doomed. I had this terrible suspicion that the straight lines and ribs would ruin many body kit attempts (without doing some major body work).
And while I like the styling of this new one, it's too big. No more pocket rocket. If you look inside, the driver sits waaaaay back there. Are they driving with a V-8 under the hood or something? Also since it is bigger and in line with most new cars today, I don't think it will get anywhere close to 2500 lbs. Where's the I-4 turbo and AWD like before? I want that back. Guess we'll have to jack from an Evo.
