Lincoln Town Car vs. 99ProES
 

This dude i work with tells me his 1993 Lincoln Town Car EX (with no mods) will beat my protege. I did some research and found out that his car come 190hp 260 torque and weighs in at 4050 (he also weighs about 50 lbs more than me). My protege is in the ball park of 130-135 hp and weighs in at around 2600 lbs. If my calculations are right, saying we drive the same, i would beat him by alomost a second. Oh yeah we both have auto. So whats the deal?

My brother inlaw has a town car and I beat it hands down. I dont think you will have a problem taking one out.

I believe Lincoln Town cars have a 4.6 or an anemic 5.0.

You should have a good chance as long as there's a long distance being covered..

Off the line the Town Car may have you, believe it or not.

He keeps sayin i would have him off the line but by a 1/4 mile he'll be about 2 cars in front. He wants to bet $300. When he said that it scared me.

If he's a friend, there is no need to race for money. I wouldn't bet him a dime. Depending on what his tourqe curve looks like, he could have a lot more high-end than you... Similarly with low-end. They are probably better suited for highway rocketry than a 1/4mile screamer.

race him up to (insert wherever your third gear ends) km/h.....

The Town Car should win. The only reason is is that you have an auto. Yes he does too, but an auto will hurt a 4 banner more than an 8. He has 260 of torque that should get him moving quite nicely.

Oh I didnt realize you had an auto. Hell kill you...

It's all about the power to weight ratio. You can have a tank with 1000 hp but what use is it when it weighs 10000 lbs. See if he'll do a practice run with you first. If all else fails, slash a couple of his tires.:)

Yes but No. Torque is what you need to accelerate. your tank won't get up a hill with out it.
