Kia v. Daewoo-woo

Any takers for this argument.
I'd pick the Daewoo.

Exactly my point, Menace! Furthermore, who the fuck cares.

Next topic:
Hummus v. baba ganoush
Which one would "go" more quickly at parties?

Hummus & Daewoo. I driving the Kia Rio and that thing sucks:eatme:

Well, I certainly would NOT pick Deawoo, as GM just bought them out of a lot of trouble. Also, GM will not support any cars sold under Deawoo name in the USA period. So all those Deawoo owners out there are way out of luck. Sorry. I would go with Hyundai anyhow, they own Kia, and their over quality has been improving dramatically.

Well, my friend has a '99 Daewoo Leganza.

1.X inline 4 with power/econ switch and 4speed with o/d transmission. Thing rides like a luxury car with all leather seats, power EVERYTHING, sunroof, ABS, big trunk.

Underpowered. Coners like a mommybox.

But for $12k brand new, he can't complain. It's a pretty good package for the price and he's only had some minor A/C problems. He put a couple of 12" momo subs in there and stock, it's almost soundproof. he also has HIDs.

IMO Kia SUCKS ass. we went to a dealership and the quality behind the cars is no good (although some had mitsubishi engines).

The guy in the other car pointing and laughing at it/both?

This was only what GM had originally said... but immediately after the announcement was made, several HUNDRED lawsuits were filed by Daewoo US dealers and vehicle owners. It looks like the dealers are S.O.L. but GM is honoring the warranties on existing Daewoo models sold in the US. From what I gather, its similar to that "GM protection plan" they're offering with oldsmobiles.

My wife and I own a Daewoo Lanos SX as our secondary car. Sure its about as refined as a soap box derby car, but for $10k fully loaded- and 3 largely trouble free years, we can't complain.

I had a vision the other day...

A Black Lanos with a sharp billet custom grill, 15" Gunmetal Slipstreams & sticky 205 tires, lowered and tinted. Swapped out 1.6 for a fully built 1.8 (Nubria engine?), roaring intake, lumpy cams, 8k redline and N1-style exhaust with oxidation (is it?) discoloration on the 4" tip. An upgraded clutch and short shifter with a Black Voodoo knob & a remote display V1. Nitrous express DPI 75 shot and a open road. Perhaps a engine mngt system too. The thought of redlining at 8k RPMs, snapping through the gears and blasting on the open road just seems invigorating. Ah...the symphony of NA engines...

But in the back of my head I would worry about the tranny staying together, where is the LSD and if all that work would be covered by GM's warranty...hehehe. Perhaps if I get rich and just want to try something different, to be loud and obnoxious. It was just a vision anyway.

haha, that was funny.....

:D

5SpeedP5 August-9th-2002 11:29 AM

didnt the kia sportage have the notorious Mazda FE3 engine in it?

reythm August-9th-2002 11:15 PM

haha, that was funny.....
I try. I know you want to drive one! Everyone wants to see a Daewoo destroy a civic or something like that, just for kicks.

onehawaiian August-10th-2002 01:19 AM

my ex has a daewoo something or other. it was slow as sh!t. and she was stupid. so anyways, i pick the kia cause it comes with a 10yr warranty. :D

titocruzsd August-10th-2002 01:35 AM

my dad got a daewoo once as a rental car. let's just say i would NEVER drive one of those things again!! :tooth:

islandpro August-10th-2002 06:37 AM

I cant think about buying a car from a company that cant even build a vcr right. :D

celticbass August-23rd-2002 03:08 AM

hahahahahahahahahaha i had a daewoo vcr too... it worked for maybe a month... hopefully that isnt a sign of their vehicle workmanship.....or else people will have lots of cars runnig of of rubberbands(likr my vcr)

HubbMP5 August-23rd-2002 07:24 AM

Electrical problems are Daewoo's forte.. My wife's Lanos has never had 1 single mechanical problem in 3 years, BUT we've replaced the stereo 3 times and nearly every light bulb on the car has burned out at least once.

macdaddyslomo August-23rd-2002 08:40 AM

actually mazda now has NO interest in Kia as they are now owned 100% by Hyundai....keep up guys...for example...Hyundai Sonata-Kia Optima...same car

Pro_fan August-23rd-2002 10:42 AM

Hey I've got a Daewoo VCR and it's works great! Seriously...no tapes eaten, records great, etc.

LOL!! I thought it was the funniest thing when I heard Daewoo was selling cars over here....guess that didn't last too long!

cjb200 August-23rd-2002 02:03 PM

Go to Daewoo's website (www.daewoous.com). On the front page, there's still an ad for a promotion that ended on 4/30/02.

It's as if they just packed up and left shop as soon as the GM deal went through. I don't know, it's kinda funny to me.

NegatiZE August-23rd-2002 04:09 PM

Kia vs. Daewoo?

I'd go with Hyundai. They are actually coming out with some pretty decent cars now. The Kia Optima being the only exception since it's made by Hyundai. A decent car.
