JDM stuff.. no wonder that Honda JDM stuff is cheap

I always wondered why JDM engines and transmissions from japan went for so little in Japan.. now I'm kinda suprised at what WHOLE CARS sell for in Japan!

Now, I know its impossible to import these to the US in any reasonable means but here's a couple things on car lots in japan, along with their U.S. pricing.. geez these are cheap!

I did the currency conversions online

1) http://www.w-a.co.jp/sl/ord/1833.html

1992 Mazda Familia GTR.. can it be!!? $1900.. YES its $1900!!

what we would do in the United States for one of these.. ;)

but this isn't even a good example!

2) http://www.w-a.co.jp/sl/ord/1765.html

Honda Civic SiR.. chameleon paint.. look at the mods on the thing.. its $2300!!! ..

3) http://www.w-a.co.jp/sl/ord/1587.html

A crummy little 1995 mitsubishi mirage.. how much? $225

I mean none of those are good examples but.. geeeeez.. Japanese inspection restrictions have gotta be tough if these were taken off the road so early to be sold for so little money?

- end of rant -

anyone have any comments on why how who? insight?

i don't know if this has anything to do with it or not, but there was an article a few months ago in sport compact car about the cost of car ownership in japan. you can't even buy a car unless you can provide proof that you have a parking spot for it. and you have to pay taxes for everything, and i mean everything. yearly tax based on size of the car, location of parking spot, etc. owning a car in japan is one expensive proposition. you can save a TON of money by not having one.

interesting...

it would be neat to ask someone thats lived in japan what actual price you're looking at to own and insure a car.

maybe i'll do some research since i have nothing better to do at work...

:D
