I'm Hurtin...

To make al ong story short, I was working last night, and had to deliver a table back to one of our employee's homes. I dropped off the table, and as I was looking back to say goodbye (while still walking forward) I took a fall on some ice. I heard a crack (like when you crack your knuckles, but WAY louder) and feared the worst. The lady whos house I was at took me to the clinic, and I had some x-rays done. It wasn't broken, but the doctor filled out the nessicary WCB forms and sent me on my way hobbling... I collected my things from work and had my Dad drive my car home. It's only a bad sprain, but it hurts like a bitch.

Oh well, I'm on crutches for a few days and higher than a kite on Advil, but at least Worker's Comp. pays for some of my lost time. I really can't afford to miss work now, so it's a welcome help.

Yes, I know I can sue the woman for not having her walkway shoveled, but c'mon! This isn't the States! :p

The worst part is, I won't be driving for a few days, (isn't getting a ride to school with your mommy awesome!?) and I may not be able to snowboard this weekend. No matter, my ankle is as big as an orange anyway, so I probably wouldn't even get my boot around it... Oh well, I'll live.

sorry about that, dude. i sprained my right ankle during a game of sloshball two junes ago and i still only have about 90% mobility. anyway, just RICE your ankle. put some stickers on it and it'll heal faster.

no really. with a sprain, you just gotta Rest, Ice, Compress, and Elevate. stay off it as much as you can. after spraining my ankle two summers ago, i went to work the next day for a client and had to climb the back of a portable climbing wall for some Xtreme games competition photo opps. ended up royally jacking my ankle. so stay off it. and athletic tape works real nice. or you can go out and buy "ActiveAnkles." they are ankle braces that work real well, but they are pretty pricey.

hope you feel better. and stay off the advil. it'll upset your stomach and give you the runs.

That sucks! Sorry about your ankle, bro
I'm in the same boat right now. I was surfing about a week ago when I got slammed on the sand and tore my "A.C." joint in my shoulder. The doc at emergency said I'd be surfing again in 2-3 months. It hurts, I'm pissed and the surf is going OFF right now.
must...heal...faster...

Wow that sucks keep it elevated and ice it makes the swelling go down wrap it and stay off it for a good bit. Just make sure u eat before u take advil and it shouldn't upset ur stomach.. Jon

"Higher than a kite" on ADVIL??

Hmmm...maybe you Canucks get different Advil from us in the US? ;)

If that were me, my doctor woulda hooked me up with something sweet for sure - like some Vicodin or something.

Of couse, I'd probably only take it for like a day - then give the rest away to my druggie friends. I just dont have fun getting high anymore - shame. ;)

But that stuff really helps when you need it. I had a broken tooth yanked (nice back molar, too) a while back, and the Vicodin helped a lot with the pain.

But if Advil does it for ya, that's cool.

Rest up, and don't push it - many back injuries get worse in time because people don't give themselves the proper healing time.

I know the feeling dude, and I think it sucks. I sprained my ankle in November while moving a couch for a friend's parents. They had some weird steps outside (like one long, one short) and I lost my balance and rolled. What a horrible feeling. I didn't know what it was right then, so I kind of manually rolled my ankle a bit to test it and it gave out again and I swore everything you could think of.

A month later I was playing laser tag for the first time and stepped on some little punk's foot and rolled it again. It was funny though because I looked like the terminator walking out of there. All these kids were just shooting me with their guns as I hobbled out slowly trying to find the exit ;).

Like people have been saying, RICE is very important. Also, invest in a exercise band thing. You put it around something stable, and then around your toes and stretch against the sprain, with, forward, backwards etc. I've been doing this since the second sprain and feel much stronger on it. Also, as stupid as it sounds, try standing on one foot (the sprained one once it gets better) and close your eyes. It will be very hard to balance on this foot, but that is good. You need to retrain your nerves to fire your ankle muscles rapidly to keep balance. Good luck!

Ouch man. If you can get a doc to refer you to physio, it should be covered under Health care. They'll give you some good tips on getting it up to speed faster.

"i hope it gets better" because you have to drive natasha to the next meet :)

I think this the only thread in the history of this group where people recommend RICE!
Who'd a thunk it? :)

All this talk about ankles is bringing up bad memories for me.

Take care of your injury! Stay off of it. Mine still swells and sometimes I fall down because it wants to 'give out', and I hurt it 4 years ago!

Well, I just got back from the doctor's again and guess what? Because of my ankle, I've been walking kinda funny to keep it from hurting, and while walking down my girlfriend's stairs last night, I broke the big toe on my left foot... Now it actually hurts to clutch!

It coul be worse I suppose... (Knock on wood!)
