ideas with web design

i'm a graphic designer by education, web designer by trade, anime otaku by nite. anyway, i work with a very small company as the only web designer and i have no creative "team" to speak of for feedback and direction. pretty much all design and creative aspects are left to me. nice you might say, but a lot of pressure for an entry level job (and pay) it is.

im stuck in a rut as far as redesigning our main web store. i've already redesigned their alternate identity-which is an e-commerce provider. check it out at http://www.webgearstores.com/ i had to make some sacrifices for the boss's vision, but im overall happy with it.

now i have to redesign http://www.usptgear.com/ and i know nothing about designing for an actual store. ive looked into designs like newegg.com, military.usptgear.com (which we run but the template was provided to us), tirerack.com, target.com, and other successful designs. its an all military store w/ military clothes, apparel, and other stuff. do you know any other designs to consider, any tips or tricks? what aspects of the design keeps you shopping at those online store? any help would be appreciated.

both of those sites look great. I wish I could offer more help however I will say this.

One of my favorite stores to shop on is www.musiciansfriend.com . It's not because I'm into music as much anymore but it's because everything is SO easy to find. No matter what you're looking for it can be found in less than 3 mouse clicks! Make the products easy to find and get to and you'll sell more!

finally settled on a design:

anybody know how to resize a pic on the fly? right now the CSS is set to not exceed 300pixels in width. it'd be nice to have it vary the width of the pic depending on the screen res. thanks!

hi everybody! <hi doctor nick!>
just got an update on the new site design. more consistent-less image heavy. kept many of the internal code that drives the store, but changed the formatting a bit. if i had more time and a better understanding of the store code, i'd have taken in a much better direction. thanks for looking ^_^
