Angry I was unable to trade in my car !

I had a lot of difficulties selling my car because of the inaccurate information that CARFAX provided. The report said that the vehicle had two owners, but actually I was the only person who owned this car. Moreover, they showed that the vehicle had been in two accidents, which isn't true either. It has only been in an accident once but still was drivable, and CARFAX described it as "Towed from scene" for some reason! Needless to say that these two facts devalued the car and it was really hard for me to sell it. CARFAX should be more responsible for the information it provides in their reports, instead of putting any information they want, which, apart from being incorrect, causes troubles for other people!

As far as I know, CARFAX gets some of their info from companies that are not responsible for the information provided. My friend who works for the government told me only NMVTIS is responsible for any information that is provided on VIN number decoding. It turns out that the information provided by CARFAX is not verified. What is even more interesting (BUT THAT'S PURELY MY GUESS) is that CARFAX might have some kind of agreement with dealers and provides deliberately negative information in their reports when buying a car from a person, and then resells it with a clean CARFAX for a higher price... You should think about it!

What websites provide reports based on NMVTIS data?

There are a lot of them. When I was looking for the websites, I did some research on price, information and convenience, and I liked the EpicVIN website the most. In addition to the information they get from NMVTIS, this company buys photos from different auctions and dealerships. The price was more than acceptable to me. As for convenience, it's just as good as other companies.
The two reports I got, when I was buying my car - from Carfax and Epicvin - were different! Epicvin report had an accident, that wasn't enlisted in Carfax!
