I need help with my Home A/V
 

I have a Sony DE-845 receiver for my surrond sound system. Never had a problem until my niece started pushing buttons on the receiver while I had gone to to check the mail. I asked her what she pressed and she shrugged her shoulders and walked away. :mad: She is only five years old though, so I can't say too much

Now when you turn it on it will play for a minute or so and then on the display it reads PROTECTED and there is no sound.

I can't find anything in the manual about it.

Does anyone have any ideas?

does this system have a MEMORY that you could power down by removing a battery? which may clear it? and put you back at square one?

This is a feature to protect the output chips. You need to check all of your speaker wires to make sure that none of them are touching. Also get a Ohm meter and meter the speaker wires at the back of the deck. Unplug the speaker wires from the back of the amp. Turn on the amp and see if it still does it. If it does, then you have a problem in the output section of your amp. If it doesn't, then you have a wire problem, or a bad speaker. If the ohm load is to low or shorted, this protection turns on to keep from damaging the output chips in the amp. Hope that helps. I get 10 recievers a day with blown output chips, because of bad speakers, or shorted wires have taken out the output chips.

Yeah, It usually a problem with the speakers or a setting. You will have to recheck all connections and setup in the receiver. Talk to me about it tomorrow at the meet if you want.
