how to go after someone

walked out to my car monday morning and saw a huge scratch and dent on the drivers door near the handle. hard to miss even from 10-15 ft away. the color of the scratches are blue, and right beside my car, parked facing the opposite direction is an old blue minivan. the scratch is exactly where their door would swing open. it was the driver door that did the damage cuz the other doors are sliding, so this "adult" just damages my car and leaves it be.

ive got their plates, how do i find this idiot and have them pay for repairs? ive already emailed the property management to see if the plates belong to any residents. no response yet. from previous experience, the police say it has to be >= $1000 in damage to file a report. i think the scratches can be fixed but the dent is pretty prominent. its not deep, but its where the door sheet metal already curves outward and its a huge gash in the opposite direction. if i find the car and nobody around, im tempted to buy a crowbar and put it to use
:Kill1:

i swear, i park far away as possible and this crap still happens to me. what are they gonna do next? scratch the passenger side & clip my rear bumper this time for symmetry?

non-chalantly slash their tires and be done with it.

zerocover April-8th-2006 11:35 AM

Dont you just love that.
I had the entire car keyed and 3 tires slashed, and didnt see a penny, even though I knew who did it.

IF you manage to get any money do post back.

my wife freaked out because I drove our RX8 to the malland someone parked their truck ON our front bumper. I kicked out their headlamps and busted off their mirror. Then left them a note saying "oops".

This stuff happens to me all the time. Park way out in the north 40 (my gf hates it) and when I come out there is some Gomer parked right next to me, in spite of 500 spaces right next to the store. It doesn't help that the sheet metal on our cars is so thin (I got a ding on one door where our plastic garbage can got blown over by the wind into the car). You can take the Zen approach and figure what goes around comes around, or take action as others have suggested. Personally I feel if the van is old like you say then they probably won't care if it gets hurt. Good luck with whatever you decide.

i would call my insurance co. but they would charge $500 co-pay even when its not my fault. the van already has what looks like keyed marks and it looks unkept, so they probably wouldnt care, i might just buy some 100 rolls of duct tape and cover the van with it.

I have 3 different colors of paint on my door pannels from morons banging their doors into my car. Never can tell who it was at a mall. Its the kids sometimes who swing the doors open and smash into your car and the parents don't give a rats ass. Someone told me that if you have a beater smash your door into their and drive away, that is if they care about their car.

Roddimus Prime April-12th-2006 10:22 AM

the trick is to do just enough damage to their vehicle where it may or may not justify spending the insurance deductible.

meGrimlock April-12th-2006 11:09 AM

hmm, i realized i emailed the apartment property already. so if i go and smash/duct tape it, they have an electronic record that i have a complaint with them. d'oh! thinks of other ways for payback...

Someone in a green car scratched my wife's rear bumper over the weekend, gonna claim it on insurance :)

Ciemny April-12th-2006 03:45 PM

You can claim a scrach on a bumper??? I had someone one rear end the car and dent the bumper and brake the exhaust pipe. They took off and I saw the damage later in the day. I was parked an this happened.......I dunno if Insurance would cover this.

If you really want to get this person back good here is what you do. (by the way I do not advise doing this unless you really hate this person and have no morals)

Go buy some weed, cocaine, crack, anything illegal.

Hide it under the persons Driver side seat.

Call police from from payphone leave anonymous tip (disguise voice) that you saw a Blue van with plates ### ### selling drugs near the school. "it looked like he was pulling them from under the Seat"

Hang up and run away quick.

Police will pull over the van find the Drugs under the seat (no warrant needed, it would be an officer safety search) they will arrest the driver.

Since you need to cover you tracks because they have "electronic trail" of your complaint.

use your cell phone to call you VM or friend, automated bank what ever. While you are calling the police.

If the police come back to you. You can just say I never made that call. I was on the phone at that time. They'll look up your phone record and it will show you making a 2-3 min calling during the time the Anonymous tip was left.

Again I do not advise doing this even to your most hated enemy's. It is illegal and will most certainly ruin there life. Going to jail, Police record, loosing job, not being able to get another one. Yeah... it is bad news.
