Haha, that's pretty funny. Anyone w/ a Corvette/Viper/whatever could outrun it.

ZoomZoomH January-5th-2003 12:54 AM

since traffic in Hong Kong is so bad the faster cars won't go too far before getting stuck in traffic, and the lowly Protege patrol car will catch up to them :D

The only US made car you will be able to find on the road in Hong Kong will only be the Cadillac Seville.
No Vette, No Viper , No Mustang.

Hmmm....

I wonder if it has any mods to make it faster for the police. I know the new Impalas that cops are driving have some mods, specifically computer chips. I noticed those clear corners though. YEAH!!!!

TheMAN January-5th-2003 02:59 AM

hello and welcome to last year...

clear corners are standard there

this is a special car specificly for patrolling cheung chau island

someone here or maybe on the egroups emailed the hong kong police a while back and they responded eagerly with as much info they can give

That's funny. Its not especially difficult to outrun a police spec Crown Vic or Impala either. But the police spec Camaros they use down here for state troopers are supposed to be quick.

you can outrun maybe a single patrol car but you can't outrun its radio

Right.
Catching you is part of "their" job.
If one patrol car can't catch you, there are always other backup joining in.

i think it was car and driver that did an article on the crown vic cop cruiser. they found that all the mods done to it are only for durability and the extra equipment makes it heavier. end result: contrary to popular belief, that cop car is actally slower than the production car.

leungwingkei January-5th-2003 06:41 PM

But they also suspected the cop card provided to them was not the real one police use.

Cheung Chau island doesn't have any roads suitable for anything the size of a Protege. The only motor vehicles there emergency vehciles and those are the size of small K cars. The Protege is actually a chase car:p , used on the larger central island of Hong Kong, and the surrounding pennisula of Kowloon and the New Territories.
