Gas Prices Ahhh!!!!!!!!!!

I live here in CT right out side of hartford by about 15 min. the gas prices here for 93 octane are now and still rising at $2.02  a gallon for 89 octane it's about $1.82 is it this bad for anybody else??

Toru February-11th-2003 10:54 PM

It's not that bad. Gas prices in my town are ~$2.10 (converted for gallons in USD) for 87 octane!

mopho February-11th-2003 11:42 PM

You really should not complain about gas prices, most of the world pays way more than we do. In the US Gasoline is one of the cheapest items you can buy by the gallon, Orange juice and milk cost more. Check this out The Price of a Gallon

So you pay and extra six bucks to fill your tank, it could be worse, it would cost $56 to fill a Protege in England

Country/ Euros per liter/ US Dollars per US Gallon

Romania 0.61/ $2.19
Bulgaria 0.62 /$2.23
Portugal 0.64 /$2.30
Luxembourg 0.65 /$2.34
Greece 0.66 /$2.37
Croatia 0.68/ $2.44
Slovakia 0.69 /$2.48
Slovenia 0.69/ $2.48
Czech Republic 0.70/ $2.52
Spain 0.70 /$2.52
Poland 0.71 /$2.56
Turkey 0.72 /$2.59
Ireland 0.73 /$2.62
Belgium 0.77 /$2.77
Austria 0.79 /$2.84
Netherlands 0.79 /$2.84
Germany 0.81 /$2.91
Hungary 0.82 /$2.95
France 0.83 /$2.99
Finland 0.84 /$3.02
Italy 0.89 /$3.20
Denmark 0.91 /$3.27
Switzerland 0.92 /$3.31
Sweden 0.96 /$3.45
Norway 1.11 /$4.00
United Kingdom 1.29 /$4.64

Yeah, but we aren't use to those prices. We didn't grow up with those prices. We all grew up on around $1.10 a gallon and now it's $2.00 9/10. So you can't blame us for arguing.:)

Protege_Joe February-12th-2003 12:57 AM

its 1.50 here and when we go blow up IRAQ its going to go up...big time

Bruce95fmla February-12th-2003 01:24 AM

But in the end, Americans usually drive a lot more miles. I'm not really taking sides, just playing devil's advocate

TheMAN February-12th-2003 04:38 AM

that's nice... still can't beat the $5.24/US gal of "regular" (98 RON) gasoline in Hong Kong :D

I won't be complaining about the prices for a LONG time because we still have the cheapest gas in the world (in a country that's not a shithole... name a country that's a 1st world nation that has as cheap gas)

till then, buy SMALL cars (a Protege!), stop driving SUVs and trucks, car pool, take the subway

I'm still happy with my $1.77/gal of 93 octane :)

it's really funny seeing americans whine about gasoline prices as if they were the only country in the world ;)

LOL, those prices must have been on 80's. Now in Finland 1.21 e/Litre (~5$/gallon), not even close to that 0.84...and I bet you could add that 50cent almoast to all prices above.

mopho February-12th-2003 12:06 PM

That's possible, I just did a quick search on the internet, there was no timeline with the chart I copied

bougha February-12th-2003 12:36 PM

Yes but anyway you got your point right. Gas is very cheap there in US

SEA_P5 February-12th-2003 12:39 PM

I believe the reason why we are so sensitive to the gas prices is that usually the price would increase at small increments throughout the year...instead of going from:

$1.39 for 87 on Monday
$1.50 for 87 on Tuesday
$1.89 for 87 on Wednesday

This is from the same gas station....

if they had spread this over a month instead of the last 3 days, a lot of people would be more calm about the price increase. But a 50 cent increase in 3 days.....

I bet you it will be 2 bucks the next time I drive by the same shop this afternoon....

But 3 months from now it will drop also...I rather they just keep a median price instead of this crazy price flauctuation.

mopho February-12th-2003 12:42 PM

You can thank Mr. Bush!

ProtegeCT795 February-12th-2003 02:59 PM

yeah i never did take in to context of the fact that other country's but yeah we do have some of the biggest cars comapred to some of the other areas around the globe, i mean the mini cooper thats been talked is a car of that many dirve over the pond, compare to the dodge rams and ford mini vans we all drive or the gas chuging V8, 10's and 12's some of us drive. But ya 5.28 in hong cong is frigen crazy!!
