Freaky numbers stations
I don't know if you guys have seen this before but I found this while browsing around. Creepy!
http://www.ryan-silva.com/muzak/ and more specifically: http://www.ryan-silva.com/muzak/E3_31-Jan-00.mp3 Supposedly they're staitions that are used to broadcast messages to foreigh spies and operatives in the field. Pretty much all that is known is speculation though. These numbers transmissions are really common, although many of you may have never heard one, probably because you are not looking in the most unlikely of places (the non-allocated shortwave bands). The numbers broadcasts normally appear in the UTE and RTTY designated bands, which is why it is rare for an SWL listener to hear these broadcasts. Food for thought! |
I'm sure there's some rational explanation...
but creepy none the less! |
