Found my new toy...

...hope I get it first.

Today I stumbled on a 88 626-t and the guy only wants $600 for it. :) Thing is, i have to call back after 5pm...so hopefully I can get a hold of him tonight and get myself boosting around....man that would make a wicked track car.

A womp'd P5 would still have trouble keeping up with a 626GT

Roddimus Prime Jul 20, 2005 04:47 PM

agreed. Phil, if you get the car and need a place to store it while you wrench on it I'll keep it here for yas

Really? what are the numbers on the 626GT? I know nothing bout them. If that is the case Im assuming this is a bomb deal that cant be passed up?

Roddimus Prime Jul 20, 2005 05:24 PM

stock for modded is never a fair race but a modded 626GT and a basic womper would most likely not be close. Those GT's were pretty quick. Very boostable with very little money.

AN 88 626GT puts down 140hp and 190lb-ft of torque to the wheels BONE STOCK.

With simple mods like 3" Exhaust and a cone filter you are looking at 155-160 hp and about 210-220 lb-ft of torque...there is also a chip available for $80 that remaps the fuel to allow you to boost up to 16lbs of boost with a simple $15 manual boost controller.

After that you can also look at a Hybrid turbo by pulling the compressor wheel and housing off an 86-87 T-Bird Turbocoupe..it bolts right to the stock turbo on the 626/MX-6/Probe GT. These are all easy mods with minimal invested. You are talking about putting a car in the 13's with a total of maybe $1300 invested including the purchase of the car.

Roddimus Prime Jul 20, 2005 08:30 PM

Mike, what was the stock turbo on those? I can get T3 parts for almost nothing so if the t-bird stuff works well then I may be able to do a whole new turbo and full exhaust for it.

macdaddyslomo Jul 20, 2005 08:56 PM

Tbird came with 2 different turbo's..earlier ones used an IHI RHB5, later ones used a T3....to do the hybrid you ned the IHI one....

Roddimus Prime Jul 20, 2005 09:03 PM

actually the automatics used the IHI and the manuals used the T3's. I've got one of each! Which IHI turbo came on the 626? Thats a 2.2L engine correct?

macdaddyslomo Jul 21, 2005 12:12 AM

yep 2.2L....the turbo is an IHI RHB5 VJ11...you have a IHI Tbird turbo???? hmm...some kind of deal may need to take place here..they are tough to locate in the junkies....

JDM-P5 Jul 21, 2005 07:32 AM

Car was a royal let down!
I drove the car yesterday...it drove like poop...couldn't feel the car boosting for the life of me. Oh well...I 'd rather the hatchback (2-dr) over the 4-dr hatch version.
Damn!
