The F'n salesman letter

Here is the letter I am sending-any comments before it goes?

128 Mazda
Attn: Tom McManuf
CC: Mike Maquire
618 North Ave.
Wakefield, MA 01880
July 8, 2002

Dear Mr. McManuf
On June 28th, 2002, while on an out of state business luncheon with my client, I received a cell phone call from your salesman Mr. David Fitzgerald. He proceeded to lay down a barrage, making accusations and calling me obscenities! I was forced to hang up on him, only to have him immediately call back, this time leaving an equally disturbing voice mail. This, because I honestly filled out what I believed to be an anonymous survey from Mazda.
Mr. Fitzgerald did not seem to have a lot of knowledge about the car I was interested in purchasing. Prior to purchase, he would frequently call me on my cell phone, which I did not give him permission or the number. Unwanted phone calls came from other representatives of your dealership reiterating information I already received. Once, I was called to come in to look at a car after having just returned home from the dealership, only to discover the car was an Automatic, even though I specifically requesting a manual.
When I went for a test drive with Mr. Fitzgerald, as soon as we would return, he would light up a cigarette (of which I could constantly smell the odor of), his shirt was partially hanging out, and he did not give me sense of comfort. He was unwilling or unable to give me any information regarding the financing or what my payments would be. I had to force my way into the managers office in order to receive payment information. Even though it seems I paid a fair price for the car, I left the dealership feeling as if I got cheated. I went to several other dealers where I was treated much better. The only reason I purchased the car through 128 Mazda is because it was the only dealership that had the car in stock, and time was of the essence.
Mr. Fitzgerald asked me to lie on this survey, even going as far as sending me a letter, asking again to give him a perfect score. This procedure only gave me more reason to answer it honestly. Believing the survey is a tool to improve service and that you and your dealership would use it appropriately, I filled it out in a manner I deemed reasonable. How dare you reveal the source of this information to Mr. Fitzgerald!!!
I am appalled with Mr. Fitzgerald's behavior. Now I cannot use your dealership for service or warranty work. Given that your dealership can not seem to keep personal information out of the hands of your employees, I now have to live in fear that Mr. Fitzgerald may seek further revenge, and do damage to my car or person.
Unfortunately, my first new car purchase was an unsatisfactory experience. I will have to think twice about recommending 128 Mazda

...even going as far as sending me a letter...
If you have this letter make a copy of it and send it with you're letter.

How dare you reveal the source of this information to Mr. Fitzgerald!!!
You might want to reword this. It sounds like you are accusing "Tom McManuf" and "Mike Maquire" of giving out the confidential information. There could be a small chance that they don't know of improper handling of the confidential information.

Send a copy to Mazda USA and also send a copy to Ford. Why Ford? cause they own a controling share in Mazda and I'm sure they would be interested to here what kind of salesmanship is going on.

You could even cc the Better Business Bureau just for the hell of it.

What a beautiful letter. Please post their response. Also indicate that if this service is continued, you will escalate this to the GM of Mazda/Ford.

Here's some tips to help you clean it up a bit..of course IMHO...feel free NOT to change it if you don't want to.

"He proceeded to lay down a barrage."
-->A barrage of what?

"even though I specifically requesting a manual."
--->It should read "even though I specifically requested a manual."
OR
"even though I was specifically requesting a manual."

"and he did not give me sense of comfort. "
--->Just a minor detail, but I think it reads better if it says, "and "he did not give me any sense of comfort. "

"Prior to purchase, he would frequently call me on my cell phone, which I did not give him permission or the number. "
--->I would change this to, "Prior to purchase, he would frequently call me on my cell phone. However, I did not give him the number to this phone number, nor did I give him permission to call me on my cell. "

"How dare you reveal the source of this information to Mr. Fitzgerald!!! "
--->I agree...this needs to be changed. Perhaps saying "Mr. Fitzgerald should not have been allowed to view the contents of the completed survey."

"Given that your dealership can not seem to keep personal information out of the hands of your employees, I now have to live in fear that Mr. Fitzgerald may seek further revenge, and do damage to my car or person."
---> I would only suggest a slight change here.
"Given that Mr. Fitzgerald was allowed to view the contents of the survey I completed, I now have to live in fear that Mr. Fitzgerald may seek further revenge, and do damage to my car or person."

Hope that helps! I would also suggest forwarding this to Mazda North America customer relations. Let us know how it goes!!

Pro_fan, maybe you should change your nick to Pro_fan_english_teacher...
LOL :) just kidding

I would make the changes that Pro_fan suggested. Im a terrible writer, so I always get other peoples opinions before sending a letter like that. :bt:

Sir Nuke July-8th-2002 03:28 PM

incorperate ALL the suggestions...there are some really good stuff there....the one thing you WANT...is to come off as a very well educated and versed customer....and to have a well written letter....YOU will be given any and all benifit of the doubt. I am assuming the individual you are sending this too is the owner or president of the dealership....you DON'T want to accuse him of anything outright in the letter...or it will most likely piss him off too and he may just trash it and nothing be said or done regardless of if he knew about it or not.

This is just the first draft, I am planning on running it past a lawyer friend. Most were grammer corrections, which for me, no matter how many times I read I still miss something. Thanks for the tips. It is also the reason I wanted to write as opposed to calling since I am fueled by anger which tends to bring out the stupidity in people

LOL!! My gf and some other friends call me the Grammar-Nazi. :D
LMAO!

Mopho: Sorry...Good idea running it past a lawyer. It doesn't sound like your letter is slanderous or offensive, so I think it'll be ok in that respect.

BTW, I hope you didn't think I was insinuating it was a poorly written letter. I thought it was good, but I just wanted to help you make it sound as professional as possible!
Again, good luck!

not at all, like I said, I am fueled by anger which brings out stupidity. I have read it a bunch of times and after seeing what you pointed out, I realized I made mistakes that I would have normally not made. thanks

Also, like sir nuke said, you don't want to come off as if you hate the whole dealership, because that might be fine if the letter was to Mazda North America, but as it's being addressed to the individuals who own the dealership, they might not take well to it. Of course, I'm just talking about the parts where you accuse them of giving the information, and also the last 2 sentences where you say you wouldn't reccomend them. Not being an english professor or lawyer myself:p I'm obviously just giving my opinion, but I think if you wrote something along the lines of "I feel confident that you pride yourself on how your dealership deals with clients and that Mr. Fitzgerald is an isolated case and does not represent your dealership to the fullest. I would like to continue doing business with you and recommending your dealership to friend's, but at this moment I am very disappointed in the way I was treated by your employee. Thanks...etc. " Maybe even add in I expect matters to be resolved, hahaha.

Oh well that's just my 2 cents, but your letter does seem very reasonable.

Your right, but I am trying to emphasize how pissed off I am with hopes they will call with their tail between their legs. I am always the good cop, this time I want to be the bad cop! Anyhow I am having a lawyer friend go over it, she said not to worry. Thanks for the help

SPACE~ACE July-12th-2002 08:41 AM

But being the "Bad Cop" is the most fun!:bonk:
