Disappointing Trend
Not sure if others have noticed this before, but I've long noted that Japanese, and many European, vehicles make use of yellow turn signals, while American makes are almost always red (i.e. the same color as their tail/brake lights).
Anyway, this is purely a matter of opinion, but I've always preferred yellow turn signals. I believe they're not only more visible (read, safer), I also think they look cooler. A little color variety is cool, imo. What's dissappointing about all of that is I've noticed Japanese auto makers are starting to use all red light assemblies now (dammit). The current Honda Civic, for instance, has all red tail lights, including turn signals, and it looks to me like the upcoming Mazda6 also has no yellow turn signals in the back. I think that blows ass. This kind of thing certainly isn't the biggest deal-- Just an observation of a trend I hope doesn't blanket the entire auto industry. Red turn signals... Noooooo!!! :bonk: Update! Tough to tell for sure, but I think I might have seen some yellow in the tail light assembly in a closer backside photo of the M6.. Hope it's not all red! |
I like amber lights...so BLAH!
|
Aren't there state laws about lights, esp. color, size, positioning?
I always assumed there were laws, other than just "you must have tail lights, brake lights, and turn signals" |

The other thing I hate is that in American cars (a lot of them) the break lights are the same bulbs which go brighter when you step on the brake (when your lights are on at night and you step on the break). I like it when a car has separate bulbs for the break lights (bulbs that are completely off and you can REALLY tell the car is breaking since there is light comming from a previously dark area of the car). Having the former is just not as safe in my opinion, I canīt begin to count the times I almost hit someone who stepped on the breaks, and the change in light intensity was not enough for me to notice. But if they are separate bulbs, and it goes from dark to bright... then itīs more noticeable... safer. |
Totally aree with you there LOS.

I kind of like the amber. I guess it does not matter if you don't use the damn signals.

Originally posted by Gro Harlem i hate the way amber looks on taillights.......i like the fact that so many manufacturers are making all of their taillights clear/red. And they still have amber turn signals.....they just use yellow bulbs instead of using the red reflector part to blink. look at the current protege taillights.....they have no amber, and use yellow bulbs to signal......i really like it like that ;p I agree, clear reflectors with amber bulbs looks better than amber reflectors and they are just as good. Red blinkers just suck. |
out with the read, i prefer amber much easier to tell when some one is turning....now only if people knew how to use the damm things
|
Forget amber and red. I turned my turn signals to hyper white.:D

Are those different factory options? From different years or could you just select different styles? that's pretty cool
|
