you bought her a ring, you get to keep your protege...fair trade

Matty Mooling September-28th-2004 02:17 PM

yeah i bought her a ring but she doesn't know that yet.

kargoboy September-28th-2004 07:12 PM

If she wants a truck, let her buy it and drive it.
Actually, as a homeowner who likes to play around and DIY I'd love to have a truck sometimes, but I am a car guy at heart and I could never, ever get myself to trade in a car that I loved just because it would be, what, practical? Screw that!

Anyway, I'd roll the thing on the first twisty I tried to hit!

Trucks are for people who need to haul things daily, like plumbers or electricians or carpenters.

Anyone else who drives one is a redneck plain and simple.

Matty Mooling September-29th-2004 06:55 AM

well she's slowly bringing out the redneck in me but it would be nice to have when i drive out to job sites. especially the ones that don't have roads yet. anyhow until i can afford both i'll be sticking with the mazda.

ghettopro September-29th-2004 07:25 AM

YAY!!!!!*hopes around and yells*...........*runs into a wall* "ouch"....ive actaully done that before...i was tired...

Listen to a guy thats been there, done that twice! Don't do it! Just think about how big of an idiot you would feel if she left you, You would have this big truck that would remind you of all the misstakes you made! I am a redneck but I learnd that if a girl wants you to do something it's because they get something out of it! :argue:

And what ever you do don't do DODGE! My sis had 2 02 trucks Dakota and a 1500 and the both had trani problems. Plus they have bad breaks. Go CHEVY OR FORD hell even NISSAN it won best 4x4 this yr out of all the big trucks.

Matty Mooling September-29th-2004 08:32 AM

yeah my dad has a 98 dakota. the thing is crap. few months after he got it they had to replace the steering column and then the driveshaft. my mom has a 2000 neon and we had transmission work done on it couple months after we got that. i think its funny how my dad will still only drive dodges. my mom told him she wants her next car to be a honda and he said yeah over my dead my body. when i do get a truck i think it'll probably be a nissan titan. those things are sexy.

Get a truck only if YOU want the truck. You don't have to change what you drive just to appease your woman (especially if she's getting some nice diamonds out of the deal). If SHE wants to drive a truck, then say "go ahead hun" and have her finance it for herself before you guys are legally wed!

I would never have a truck as my primary mode of transportion. However, right now I have 4 cars and would love to ADD a truck to the fleet, but definitely not to give anything up to get it! Besides, once you get a truck everyone you know will hit you up to move furniture for them.

That's how I get MY stuff moved around now, LOL!

I speak from experience on this one. Years ago, I traded in a sporty, economical car on a Ford Ranger 4x4 with a V6 and a manual. You'll forever say goodbye to good handling, decent fuel economy, and in a lot of cases, decent acceleration. You will BEG for friend who owns anything close to a unibody with a manual trans to let you drive it, because you'll miss cornering better than a city bus. And in the end, you'll get rid of the truck because you will get misty-eyed for the days when you didn't have a big, hairy beast that chugs gallons of two dollar gas like a frat boy doing keg stands consumes beer.

... worse, if you own a truck, you'll make friends you never knew you had. They'll call you up EVERY time they move, need to make a run to the dump, want to haul home a new couch from the furniture store. You'll be the guy with the truck, and it will suck, because everyone will suddenly need your help.

One more reason not to trade for a truck. They are basically engineered like yesteryear's cars. Big, heavy separate ladder frames. Leaf springs. Sometimes they'll have recirculating ball power steering with sloppy drag links. Some of them still have rear drums. Pretty agricultural when you get down to it. Now, some of this crudeness is required for trucks that actually spend their time hauling stuff and doing work. But, with the exception of the sophisticated engines found in some offerings, these are not vehicles for people who appreciate sophisticated engineering. If you actually NEED to have a truck around to haul stuff in, by all means get one. But most people who own them spend 99.9% of their time behind the wheel hauling nothing, and especially not a$$.
