dang windshields!
 

Just had to get my windshield replaced on my P5. A crack developed under the passenger's side windshield wiper. I thought it was a stress crack, but my Mazda dealer said there was a stone chip there so it's not covered by waranty.

Since Mazda wasn't paying for it, I found a place to do it cheap. ($280, including installation and tax). Of course, when you go with the cheapest place, you make some compromises.

They didn't have the official Mazda windshield seal that runs around the perimeter of the glass, so they used standard stuff. This means that there are a couple little pieces of flashing near the hood that keep crap from falling down into the fenders missing. I reckon that won't be a big deal.

On the other hand, they *did* give me the lovely blue tint stripe across the top of the windshield. Uggh. It looks completely dorky. I'll be visiting eDecals.com for something to cover it up with.

I'm still not so sure the crack was caused by a stone, but I can't really argue the issue because I have no evidence to the contrary. Assuming it was a stone, then that makes one windshield and one fog lamp that have been replaced due to stones. I've got to stay off the freeways.

Thank god here in Florida, windshields are covered by insurance with no deductable.
