Computer Problems

Anyone in the Northeast Georgia area feel like fixing a computer for me? I've given up on it! Can barely get windows to load...

its a nice, custom built system... (darn case was ~ $200) haha.

Athlon 1900+
512mb ram
dfi motherboard (AD77 Infinity, i think) /vid card (Xabre 64mb) <-- i think these 2 are fight'n

anyway... anyone feel like play'n around w/ a system to get it work'n? I've had it for 2 years now, no luck... geez

Other than the decent amount of ram, the system is fairly outmoded...unless you just want to use it for 'net stuff. Can you describe in a little more detail what exactly happens?
Which operating system?

oh yah, I know its outta date, but it should play the games i wanna play easy enuf. command&conquer:the first decade... ds2, stuff like that.

old school! Win98SE - not much details, just "locks" up. after 3-4 times of restarting, win98 gets loaded.
then, just random lockups.

try another brand of ram. if you have a friend who has some compatible ram lying around, swap it out.

run DFT, available at www.hgst.com for free. its a bootable cdrom which can test you hdd for failures. anything other than a 0x0 result, the hdd should be replaced.

for the heck of it: also try a new CMOS battery. take a look at the button battery on the motherboard. match it up with a button battery at your favorite electronics store (usually found in the digital imaging section).
