Car books
 

I'm looking for some recommendations on car books... I want to learn how all this car stuff works.. I have a few brain cells, and am not asking for books you would buy a 6 year old whos into cars.. but I am pretty much a newb and don't know where to start..

I plan to take some mechanic type courses hopefully next year.. because I can't figure out any other way to get access to the nessisary tools to tinker with.. and don't plan on dropping thousands and thousands of dollars into tools seeing as this isn't for a career change (I just like to know how stuff works).. but I am hoping to get a junker to play with in the spring..

I realize its not as simple as reading a single book and knowing it all.. I'm just looking for a starting place.. this question must sound as dumb as when people ask me 'I want to learn about computers, what book should I get'... blah.. but it can't hurt to ask..

Maximum Boost by Corky Bell. Thats a good turbocharging introduction. Its a very detailed book.

Go to the local public library.....find books on the workings of internal combution automotive engines...and start reading...

the nice thing about cars and engines and tranny's is the fact that BASICALLY they all work the same way. the theory is all the same. start there and get a handle on the basics then branch out into things like forced induction (turbo and supercharging). Then you can start looking into performance and how to do this properly....

that is my suggestion.

and getting a junker to experiment on is the best idea I could EVER suggest to anyone....if you can....get something that you could actually turn into something you wouldn't mind seeing yourself drive around in...if possible....

Yeah howstuffworks is like my second home... seeing as I like to learn about how just about everything works..

I know there's tons of information on the net.. but I'd like to have some more detailed resources in print.. something to do when I don't feel like playing on the computer..
