sombodies tryin to bring the old style back *cough* new mustang *cough*

the new old muscle car designs look good... im not hating on the stang.. i like how they used the gt 500's front design... i guess chevy wanted to go the same way

at least the companies let the designs fall for a few decades and bring it back making everyone crazy and buy it...

not like pontiac... every single fkn car starting from the 90's and up look the same and suck... im pissed that they fkd over the GTO!!!!!!!!!!... sorry but i believe pontiacs gatta go or get a new fkn designer for their cars... bitches!

anyway the car is descent

TitaniumMSP April-21st-2005 09:21 PM

Like I saw new pics of the Dodge Charger ugly as hell looks almost just like the freakin Magnum to me....yeah I love the Ram and Viper but that is about it from Dodge. When I bought my MSP I had the chance to pick up the Neon SRT4, but I just can not justify paying that much for a Neon (yes I do not like Neons the styling is horrid).....

TitaniumMSP April-21st-2005 09:24 PM

The rumor also is the Z28 will have a V8 6.0 liter ??? I was a little confused with this statment cause the SS was going to have a 5.4 V8....now I may not know WTF i am talking about but isn't the SS the top dog of Camaro's???

kmaalfiisa April-21st-2005 09:36 PM

oh hell yes!!!!!

SS is fricken huge with comero's, chevrolets, chargers, super bee's, road runners, al comino's, the old GTO, baracuda's (hemi cuda), ect

maybe what the companies want to do is bring back the classics (some will be messed up and hated) for instance the new GTO....... fire birds, and that car (cant remember its name) i wanna say it has "bird" in it

kmaalfiisa April-21st-2005 09:38 PM

sh*** i got it

the "thunder bird".... not too enthusiastic about the newer design... and the newer MR2's

the best were late 80's and early 90's

i wonder if the old Checkers and Bel Airs would look like if they where re-designed

Anarchistchiken April-21st-2005 09:49 PM

Titanium, don't you go insulting my Magnum now. I might have to open up a can...
Also, I agree that's a cool drawing, but I'll bet you $50 right here that the 07 Camaro (if there is one, which I doubt) will look very little like that. The Mustang just came out, so GM's not gonna clone it only 2 years later. I figure they'll wait at least 3-4 years.

As far as new old cars go...

GTO - SUCKS (but only because it has Pontiac badges on it and it destroys the legend. The platform is great)
Thunderbird - SUCKS
Charger - SUCKS
Mustang - RULEZ

Phantom Cruiser April-21st-2005 10:02 PM

I'm going to have to "just say no" on this one.

TitaniumMSP April-21st-2005 10:06 PM

Im sorry the Magnum is a chop top station wagon on steroids(can you say Hemi). I am still waiting on the Magnum with the "simulated wood" panels to come out LMFAO. If I was dead and needed a ride to the graveyard from the funeral home then yes the Magnum would be the ride of choice and style, but as they say one mans trash another mans treasure

ShogunProtege April-21st-2005 11:32 PM

i am a lil iffy on that one, i like it and hate it at the same time... i would take the new stang over it any day, expesialy the gt shelby version they are supposed to be comming out with..

djchazzychef April-22nd-2005 12:47 AM

I've got quite a mix of automotive friends, but to this day I've always hated Mustangs. I was especially frustrated when Chevy discontinued the Camero and the new Mustang was redesigned (even though I'm quite possibly the only person who likes the new GTO's). I was even more frustrated when I actually liked the style of the new Mustang. I'm glad to see the Camero alive and kicking again. Even though I'm not into 1/4 mile times, I do appreciate muscle cars and their capabilities. Even my muscle head buddies can appreciate my P5, so it's the least I can do to understand them. I look forward to seeing it out on the road. Being from Detroit, I've always had an affinity toward muscle cars (even though I'd never drive one, at least until I'm 40 and have a mortgage). I am one that appreciates the new retro styling. It beats the one size fits all styling of the late 90's Chryslers/Dodges or even most (not all) of the bland styling that comes out of Japan. It's still no Pininfarina though.

Yes, I really don't like the styling. It looks like some strange insect. Hopefully the design team will re-think a few things before they go to production.

Roddimus Prime April-22nd-2005 08:31 AM

I have to jump in and re-itterate some of my points from another thread.

#1. Concept only, looks over the top and will be pretty different when/if it does actually hit the streets

#2. The plant that manufactured the camaro was DESTROYED, It cost $220Million. GM either has to build another plant or re-tool an exsisting plant which means cancelling another product to make room for the camaro. This takes YEARS and $$$

#3. Camaro's (in the past) have always been about big motor in a cheap car...yet somehow they always cost more than a mustang. In order for GM to have any kind of worthwhile product they are going to have to steal sales from the mustang which will now have a MINIMUM of a 2yr head start on the market. Remember why the camaro got tossed away to begin with....too much $$ not enough sales.. The fact they were faster than a mustang didn't help them any.

#4. Maybe if GM had released a retro-camaro before Ford announced theirs I'd think it was cool but now they are just jumping on the bandwagon. I think GM should go the other route and make the camaro more of a high end techno-car....but it wont happen. GM exec's dont have the foresight or balls to make a decent product anymore....why do you think they're buying up companies like DAEWOO.

Thunderbird - SUCKS

i admit, the chargers styling does lack the flair of the old school chargers (looove the R/Ts)

heres the new SRT-8:

The Dodge Charger - one of the biggest names from the muscle car era - powered its way out of its storied past and onto the stage at the 2005 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Now, the all-new 2006 Dodge Charger SRT8 provides exactly what performance enthusiasts wanted, more American muscle. Charger SRT8 is capable of 0-60 mph in around 5 seconds, quarter-mile time in the 13-second range and braking distance from 60-0 mph in approximately 110 feet.

Just as the very first Charger, the new SRT8 gets its motivation from a Hemi. In this case, it's a big-bore, having more cubic inches, increased compression, new cylinder heads and new intake/exhaust systems for increased flow. Several features of the new 6.1-liter SRT Hemi recall the legendary Hemi engines of previous decades, including the namesake hemispherical combustion chambers that provide power and efficiency, orange-painted cylinder block, black valve covers, and even the horsepower rating of 425 bhp.

Chassis improvements on the SRT8 include SRT-tuned dampers, specially tailored spring rates and suspension bushings, large-diameter anti-sway bars. The car rides on unique SRT-developed five-spoke 20-inch forged aluminum wheels attached to a new braking system having Brembo 4-piston calipers.

Race-inspired interior and exterior appointments give the SRT Charger a distinct appearance. At the front an new front fascia includes integrated ducts and the hood is equipped with a scoop to funnel cool air into the engine compartment. Rearwards, a new fascia features aggressive cutouts to accommodate dual 3.5-inch exhaust tips and a dramatic decklid spoiler increases downforce. Inside SRT sports highly bolstered sport seats with contrasting red stitching, a leather trim steering wheel and a 180-mph (300 kph) speedometer.

The 2006 Dodge Charger SRT8 will be assembled at Brampton Assembly Plant in Brampton, Ontario, Canada.

hahaha, 425hp + $30K = still not faster than a base mustang GT....hahahaha just FYI, Johnnie was at his local track and his buddy bought a new 05 GT automatic loaded and it ran a 9.1s 1/8th mile on street tires with doing nothing more than pushign the gas on green....thats a mid13s run right there.

Eeek!
What an awful design.

Roddimus Prime April-22nd-2005 01:06 PM

that bellair concept was supposed to come with turbocharged version of the Canyon's 5cyl engine....should've made good power but what a hideous design and platform.

macdaddyslomo April-22nd-2005 01:29 PM

Just FYI guys. GM WAS working on a possible "Pony Car" and one possible name was Camaro. GM has sinced decided to shitcan the idea. Sorry Guys, still no more Camaro's at this point in time. As Matty stated this was just a concept. It will not be released in 2007

You get a lot of "down low" info when you work in the auotmotive industry :bt:

scotty878 April-22nd-2005 02:20 PM

The camaro looks ok, lots of curves, but the front end looks weird, mainly the very front, the headlights/grill/anything else at the front of the car just doesnt go with the rest, a redesign there and it might work...

As for the SRT-8 charger, dont be too quick to judge, I saw pictures and wasnt too impressed, it looked like a crappy sedan trying to look tough, but when I went to the NY auto show, I was actually quite impressed by it, and I dont normally like american design/cars, so wait till you see it in person to judge that one!

Roddimus Prime April-22nd-2005 03:02 PM

the thing about the charger is the price vs the performance.....they claim a 425hp engine and low 5second 0-60...not 5s (exactly) 0-60 that several mustang owners are getting.

My point is that this new mustang REALLY raises the bar for others who wish for a piece of fords ponycar market. They've got to REALLY bring their best A-game and do it for the same price if not cheaper than the mustang....good luck.

ShogunProtege April-22nd-2005 03:07 PM

not to mention the performace mustang gt-500 i think thats what they are calling it.. , that is gonna be around 38k, but have 450+hp and 450+trq next year..

Roddimus Prime April-22nd-2005 03:21 PM

yeah, according to the articles I read the Shelby GT-500 will be $35-40K and match or exceed the performance from the Z06 corvette ($60K) and the Dodge Viper ($75K).

i could go on and on with specs and stuff...but im thinking about just opening up another thread instead of trashing this one more....

Stueck April-22nd-2005 08:52 PM

here is one page though

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/shelby-cobra.htm

hughes412 April-22nd-2005 09:07 PM

You have to remimber that the dodge is a 4door family car that weighs more then the ford. And ford better bring its game! The last cobra could have out sold the vett if they would have prised it right. With just a few cheap mods (exh, drag radials) it was a low 12 car. But like always the only ford car that is worth the cash just don't have that umph that the vett does. People would rather spend the 50k and get a plain vet then the over powering mustang. But with this new design it just might be what they need. I personally do not like the charger but love the magnum! man put that 500hp in it and I would eat it up.

Roddimus Prime April-22nd-2005 09:35 PM

eh, I dont mean to hate on the chevys but I'm very anti-gm....remember the Cobalt SS thread I shit on'??

I'm just never impressed with anything GM does. I consider them a budget brand with a decent V8 engine.

Thats a good point, and thats why they beat out ford and dodge. Remimber this is America. We like and want POWER. No one here (except a few) cars about auto cross. It's all about how fast and how long it takes to get there. Thats why Dodge is winning right now, they have the fastest. Untill the Z06! But they'll still have the magnums and the 300s. Thats why they call our cars American Muscle cars, not American sports cars.

cornercarve98 April-23rd-2005 01:05 AM

The "concept" Camaro is kinda ho-hum with what I think are some badly integrated styling elements (the front, anyone?). I personally like the 2nd gens vs the first gens (that everybody wants). I'd like the Camaro to come out again. Retro is cool, so GM can do it if they want. Other thoughts:
New Mustang: love it (and sooooo cheap)
GTO: undestated but fast, i like this one a lot
Charger: Nice, but the SRT-8 is downright mean looking (very cool)
Oh and that Charger Cop Car: I would not want to see that in my rearview. Scary.
I'd like to see DCX come out with coupes for the 300 and the Charger. Those would look sick. I'd buy one most definitely.

That's funny...what about the 3rd and 4th gen Camaros ???

Who the hell goes after 2nd gens ??? 2nd gens are the 73-81 Camaro's..those are the ugliest of all ????
